Spotify crashing mid song and when not connected to WiFi

Spotify crashing mid song and when not connected to WiFi

Plan

My Spotify crashes mid song/ never makes it to the end of a song before the app closes. I have deleted the app multiple times and reinstalled it. I’ve reset my phone multiple times but it doesn’t work. The app doesn’t crash only if I keep it open on Spotify (not having it run in the background). Also it crashes more when I’m not connected to WiFi but I have downloaded songs. And I have paid for premium to listen offline and it doesn’t work. This has been continuing for a few weeks now.

Hey there @TamicaHird

Thanks for posting - we’re here to help!

In case the regular reinstall of the Spotify app didn't make any difference to what you experience you might need to perform a clean reinstall as well. We recommend this step since it's more thorough in terms of removing corrupted data from the previous installation.

If this persists after a clean reinstall, try disabling any power saving or data cleaning settings on your device. Make sure you try this since such features can often prevent the app from operating at full capacity.

Let us know how you get on! We'll be here in case you need any further help with this.

Spotify continues to crash randomly while I am listening to a particular playlist, if I do not have the app up on my phone. It only does this on the one playlist. I am using an Iphone10 with the latest update. I have also removed the app and did a clean reinstall, and it continues to happen.

Hey @BD627,

Thanks for reaching out.

Could you share a link to the playlist in question so we can test it at our end? Also, does this happen on other devices as well? If you could ask a friend or family member to log in to their account on your phone and check if the issue comes up there as well, that would help us a lot. Make sure to also include the exact iOS and Spotify version you have running on your smartphone in your response.

Keep us posted. We’ll keep an eye out for your reply.

I had someone else log in on my phone and had someone else listen to it on their phone and there was no problem playing the playlist with either of those. It happens when im at work, in the car, on the couch, on wifi or not; whenever I’m listening on my phone on my profile. There seems to be no specific trigger for it, it might happen on the second song, it might happen on the seventh, it might happen back to back. I also have the free subscription.
Spotify version: 8.6.16.1012

IOS version: 14.4.2

Hi @BD627

Thanks for this info.

If possible, could you send over a video where we can take a better look at what happens? This will help us investigate further.

You can send a link to it or attach it using the Insert Video option in the post editor.

We'll be on the lookout.

Taking a video is impractical for me to do right now.  What happens is, at some point while the playlist is playing, the music will cut off and the app will close. This will happen whenever I do not have the app pulled up and am looking at Spotify while the music is playing. If I am on the home screen, lock screen, or on another app, Spotify will crash as mentioned above.   I then have to open the app again and the song that was playing has been restarted at 0.00 seconds. As mentioned earlier, I can’t tell that there is a trigger for it; it happens on different songs and at different points throughout the playlist.

I am having the exact same issue, the app crashes after an unpredictable amount of time and then I have to reopen the app at which point the song will restart. It happens accross 2 different playlists when I am on wifi and data. I have tried updating the app, updating the phone software and reinstalling the app and nothing has helped. I am able to listen to the same playlists on my iPad with no issues.

Hey folks,

Thanks for getting back to us 🙂

In case you're using any battery optimization or power saving apps, we'd suggest you deactivate them for Spotify.

It's also a good idea to make sure that Spotify has the permissions to run in the background.

@KP2113 Could you try sending us a video recording of the issue? You can also share with us the URIs of the playlists. We'll look into this further.

Keep us posted! We'll be right here if you have any questions.

So, I recreated the playlist minus one song, just because I didn't want it in there anymore.  I have listened to the playlist a few times now and have not had any problems. The only difference between this new playlist and the old one i was having problems with is a new name for the playlist, the songs are in a different order, and one song is missing. The one song that I did not include is in a couple other of my playlists and those have no problems that I have seen; and like I mentioned before, the app would crash on different songs so, I don't think it was this song that was causing the issues.

Hi @BD627,

Thank you for your reply and confirmation.

We suggest that you head over to this article to see how you can sort the playlist.

Hopefully creating a new playlist was the solution.

Let us know if the app starts crashing again so that we can continue to assist you.

Take care!
