Spotify keeps skipping songs (iphone)

Spotify keeps skipping songs (iphone)

Plan: Premium Duo

Country: USA

Device: iPhone SE

Operating System: iOS 17.5.1

My Question or Issue

Spotify keeps skipping songs mid-way through. If I try to go back to the song, it skips it at the same time as before (making me think this is a software issue rather than a device/earbuds issue.) Here are the things I've already tried:

- Reset my device

- Cleared my cache

- Logged out and logged back in

- Logged out of all devices

- Updated the app

- Uninstalled the app and reinstalled

- Deleted all my downloads

- turned off gapless play and other mixer settings

Still skipping....any advice? All the other questions like this seemed to be solved by the tasks above, but my app continues to have issues.

Hey there @sophiarowe! Thanks for posting here!

Have you tried using your Spotify account on a different device to check if the issue persists? Also, trying on a different WiFi connection or hotspot would be worthing to see if it makes a difference.

Please keep me in the loop

Note: I'm not a Spotify employee.

I recently started experiencing this (described above - track cuts off suddenly and skips to next track in the queue) but only with longer tracks, as in about 7 minutes or longer. It only happens when using AirPlay to cast from iPhone or iPad to a device such as a Denon home stereo receiver or a Roku Streambar. I have tried clearing the cache, logging out and back in, and re-installing the app, but none of these helps. All devices are using the latest software updates. Tracks play normally when using Bluetooth devices. I can go back to the track manually and play the rest of the song that was skipped. If one of the moderators from Spotify is out there, or anyone with knowledge of what I'm describing, can you help?

Welcome to the Spotify Community @jmartinc!

This might be related to your network setup then. What I'd recommend is going to your Wi-Fi settings and switching the frequency band of your router to 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz. Something else you can try is disabling DHCP and changing the DNS by following the steps here.

Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes 👍

Neither of these things helps.

Appreciate the cooperation @jmartinc.

To gather some more details, could you double-check if you experience the same issue with the Connect feature

Additionally, it'd be great if you could test with a different Wi-Fi connection or ask a relative or a friend to share mobile data via hotspot to your devices.

Yes, same issue with Connect. I should add I do not have this problem with streaming from Bandcamp or playing music that is stored on my phone, only when using Spotify.

I have not yet been able to try it on another WiFi network.

Hey @jmartinc,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

In order to look into this further with the relevant team, let us know the following info:

- Your device info (make/model) and OS version

- Exact Spotify version

Also, and if possible; could any of you record a short video where we can take a better look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be on the lookout for your response.

Spotify version 8.9.90.84

iPhone 7 SE , iOS 17.6.1

All that happens is a long track ends prematurely after about 7 minutes. Example - the song “Reel E” by the artist Water Damage.

Thanks for the reply @jmartinc.

Have you tried power-cycling all devices, including your phone, receiver/streamer and router? Try unplugging them from the power outlet > waiting 30-60 sec > plugging them again to see if that helps. If you're using a VPN, it's worth disabling it temporarily as well.

Keep us posted on this 👍

Yes, I have tried every troubleshooting measure I can think of.

Thanks for the continued assistance with this @jmartinc!

Since the issue seems to occur at a specific point, could you check if manually going past that point using the progress bar doesn't trigger it? Something else that comes to mind is using another device with Spotify Connect instead (like your PC, for example) to see if the issue would still occur. If there are any apps connected to your Spotify account, it's worth removing them as well.

Let us know how it goes.

Spotify doesn't play the whole songs. somewhere halfway through a song it goes on to the next one. I have already reinstalled the app.
