Spotify on iPhone 5 will not log in

Hi all, I'm trying to get Spotify to work on my iPhone 5, model A1428, app version 8.5.28.1046 on iOS 10.3.4.  I have two identical iPhone 5's, same iOS version, same model number, same app version installed on both.  Whenever I try to login to the app, it gives an error, "Something went wrong, please try again later."  If you attempt to log in again, it won't even try, it will immediately give the error message again, and if you attempt to use the log in without password option, it will say your email is not registered with a Spotify account.  I've tried on two identical iPhone 5's, even tried on my friend's iPhone 5C, also running the same app version and iOS version; it does the exact same thing.  I've logged into my Spotify account on my PC both in the browser as well as in the Spotify app for Windows, works fine.  I've logged into Spotify on my iPhone 12 Pro Max, my iPhone 5S, even on my iPhone 4S, all on different app versions, all logged in and worked fine.

Then why do you keep offering the option to download the latest compatible version of the app on older iOS versions?

This is not something you are forced to do, this is something you, Spotify, as the developer of the app, choose to do. If you're not even going to be allowing people to log in, why don't you just stop offering the latest version of the app and simply not list the Spotify app for users on older iOS versions?

You should take this feedback seriously. As you can see there are plenty of paying customers (I've been a Premium Family user for many years) interested in being able to play Spotify music on older iPhones for many reasons. These devices are in working condition and are more than powerful enough to run the latest version of Spotify compatible with them, and to play music. Please listen to your customers and fix the login issue.

I used fiddler to grab and install the older version of Spotify 8.5.0 from PC iTunes and successfully logged in. After that, I can update to version 8.5.28 and use it normally, but why the latest compatible version cannot be logged in.

That sounds like a good workaround. Can you elaborate more? What’s fiddler? And where do you get a copy of 8.5.0? Thanks!

There isnt a way round I checked its dead end Spotify don't give two shits about the customers, environment they are aware that this decision pressures a constant cycle of consumer phones with no real benefit to playing a Fleetwood Max song but this is there jam screw the planet screw the consumers, screw themselves for being so short sighted

Just FYI, @haonewa's workaround actually works and I was able to log in on my daughter's iPhone 5.

This would be great if anyone has worked it out. Or even a youtube tutorial would get endless views, so many spotify users need a solution to this.

 El mismo problema también aquí. Ya no puedo iniciar sesión con mi iphone 5. No es posible actualizar el sistema operativo o la aplicación. Los viejos iphones son buenos reproductores de Spotify. Estos dispositivos no deberían ser un desperdicio solo porque el inicio de sesión en Sportify ya no funciona. Sería muy apreciado cuando Spotify pueda proporcionar una solución.

same problem here..I love to use my Iphone 5c as a spotify player connected to my amplifier. The 3,5mm jack is a nice pro too.. Please make this possible again. It's a waste of materials!

Same problem here. I've been using for years an old iphone 5 just as a music player with spotify, today I had the bad idea of swiching to another premium account for my baby doughter, I logged out my own account and when I tried to login with hers... "an error has ocurred"... So no more spotify just because I logged it out... Shame on you Spotify, there is a lot of people like us using old phones as music players, they are great for that, and now I can't do it anymore, thank you very much!!! 😠

Same issue here I can't have spotify in my car... I spent a lot of money to install a iPhone 5 kit in my car. 
But I can only use my old ipod, and I'd like to use this port with my old iPhone 5 with spotify.

As it's a perfect music player...

Hi,

Just log into Spotify web Player on Safari or Google Chrome from your iphone 5 or 5C, and go back to the Spotify App.
