My Question or Issue

I am using Spotify Connect on iPhone 11 with Denon DRA-800H amplifier. I am mostly listening to full albums from start to finish and this is what my issue is about. When an album finishes playing, then Spotify continues to play it again from the beginning even though all repeat or autoplay functionalities are disabled. I expect that when last song from the album finishes, then nothing else gets played, just silence. This is happening only while using Spotify Connect and my Denon. I remember this was not an issue few months back, just started to happen very recently.

I also suspect that this Community post below might be related to my issue but unfortunately I cannot open it - getting Access Denied screen.

Hey folks!

The issue is currently being looked into 🙂
We can't provide you with an exact time at which it will get fixed but it is on our radar.

When using Spotify Connect to play on external speakers from a PC/smartphone app or brower app, the app now plays the album on repeat if autoplay is turned off.

After chatting with the support staff, they told me that the specification has recently been changed to repeat playback from the beginning of the album without stopping at the end of the album.

I prefer the previous specs and would like the app to stop playing when the album ends, even when using Spotify Connect.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community and apologies for the delayed reply. We've merged some threads together because we'd like to look into this.

In order for us to investigate this further, we'd need the Spotify version you're currently running. We can then relay the information to our tech team.

Any additional details (such as device's make, model and OS) will be very helpful to our investigation as well. Sending us a quick video of how the issue looks like would come in handy. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. If the attachment is too big - we'd suggest that you upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

Hope this helps. We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

Here's the video:

Short description of the steps:
1. Open Spotify app.
2. Connect to Denon DRA-800H amplifier.
3. Select album and start playing.
4. Skip all songs up to the last one.
5. Fast forward to the end of the last song (0:11 seconds left).
6. As soon as the last song finishes, fist song starts playing again, even though it's not reflected in the app interface!
7. After 30 seconds you can see that progress bar turns from 0:00 to 0:30 (1:26 in the video), but still no indication in the interface that the song is playing.

Hey @strappado,

Thanks for this important info shared.

We'd like to gather some additional info. Would you mind sending the exact Spotify version you're running on your iPhone? You can follow the steps in this article to find out.

On another note, do you notice if this started to happen after some specific event, e. g. an OS update on the affected device? If yes, please send us all the details about it.

It might be worth it as well if you check if there are any pending updates for the firmware of your Stereo.

Lastly, and just to confirm, can you replicate this behavior if you open your account on a different mobile device? If not sure, it'd be awesome if you could check. You can ask for the mobile device of a relative or a friend to open your account, connect it to your stereo and check.

Keep us in the loop!

I'm having this exact same issue and have been for a few weeks now. Doesn't matter if Spotify is running from iOS or a Mac OS computer. Interestingly when the album/playlist begins repeating; Spotify doesn't at first show that anything is playing (despite the audio clearly being transmitted to HEOS) - I have to literally initiate "play" on my device and then "pause" it again to get the music to stop.

Thanks for the useful info @ajhawar32! Could you provide the versions of Spotify you're running on your devices so we can forward them to our tech folks?

A short video which captures this behavior in action would also be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

@Yordan - I'm running:

Spotify for macOS (Intel)
1.2.17.834.g26ee1129

and iOS version 8.8.56.514

I can take a video when I'm home later; but it's exactly the same behavior outlined in @strappado's video above.

I have exactly the same issue, using Android.

Whenever I play an album on one of my HEOS devices or my Denon receiver, using Spotify Connect, it repeats the first song after playing the last.

This does not happen with a different playback source other than Spotify Connect.

I've been having a similar problem for the last two months whenever I used Spotify Connect with my Denon AVR-X1600H receiver. No matter if I'm playing an album or a playlist, after it's done it starts automatically playing the first song again, even though all autoplay/replay functions are turned off. After 30 seconds the app shows as if it stopped playing but the music continues until the end of the song (sometimes it also plays the first second of the next song). I'm using an iPhone 12 mini running iOS 16.6 and Spotify version 8.8.66.570, but I also tried with 3 additional devices (an iPhone and two iPads) and the same thing happened. The receiver's firmware is up to date and this doesn't happen with any source other than Spotify Connect. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,

I have the exact same issue with playing music on my Denon amplifier through spotify as described on this topic. The behaviour is the same. When the album is finished it just repeats itself. Since it is two months since the last update, I’m wondering if there is any update on fixing this.

Thanks
Joris

Same here with a Marantz PM-7000N. Loopback after the end of the playlist/album with the same symptoms.

So it’s been over 3 months since this was first reported and there’s been no acknowledgment of the issue from Spotify or that they are working on a fix. Do we just assume this is something we have to live with?

Same issue, iPhone 13 mini and Denon AVR-X3500H. Latest software and firmware on all devices. This really isn’t hard to reproduce, what is taking so long in fixing this?

I'm having the same issue, using Denon AVR-S730H with my iPhone SE, iOS Version 16.7.2, & Macbook Pro, macOS 14.0 (23A344).

Same issue. Denon DRA-900H, connected via HEOS, Spotify für macOS (Apple Silicon) 1.2.24.756.g7a7fc7f0 as well as Spotify 8.8.80.599 for Android. Please fix this.

The issue is most probably not with Spotify but with HEOS.

The same happens to me when I use Soundcloud with my Denon receiver. Both, Spotify and Soundcloud are connected via the HEOS streaming service by Denon. No matter if I play a song, an album or a playlist. After it finished, the first track will play again.

So, please let's all report the issue at HEOS.

Reported to HEOS support, below is the reply I got.

Thank you for your email,
Please note that the Spotify app is acting as the controller. We have no influence on functions specifically in the Spotify app.
Also please note that we have not had a huge number of customers calling and emailing in regarding such issue, so it is more than likely a Spotify services issue.

I'm not sure anymore if the issue is really with HEOS or with Spotify.

When using Soundcloud via HEOS it puts tracks in a waiting queue. It doesn't always automatically repeat my first track. But when I then start another track, the one after that will be the tracks from the waiting queue playing again. Strange. However, I can delete the tracks from this waiting queue. This is not possible when I use Spotify, the first track will just repeat.
