I found this thread while trying to figure out why Spotify stopped playing halfway through a song and when I stopped the app and restarted, it did the same thing. I combined a few things I found here and came to a conclusion that worked for me. It may have been said before but I didn't see it so I thought I'd leave it here.
I have an iPhone 4S that I kept as a glorified iPod since it has a connection that works with my home receiver. Anyway, I also have an iPhone 5S to replace it and I downloaded Spotify on my 5S and it worked just fine. The 4S, however, shuts down halfway through songs.
I deleted the app from both devices, rebooted both devices, and then downloaded the app on the 4S. Now the 4S works just fine.
I've come to the conclusion that the problem is with compatibility between the iOS on the 4S (7.1.2), the 5S (8.1), and iSync. Since I downloaded the app on my 5S, that versiont was propagated to the 4S and that caused the hang.
I turned off iSync so that apps are not shared between the two, downloaded Spotify to each one, they both work fine, and then I turned iSync back on. I don't know if this is going to cause a problem with the next release of Spotify wanting to update or not but I know how to fix it. I guess the Spotify app is not backward compatible between iOS versions.
Good luck,
T
The same situation happened to my wife's iPhone 6 plus, tto.
iOS 8.4
latest Spotify version.
The app just stop playing music after playing 1~2 min and sound is gone while the play button is still showing.....
What can she do to solve this problem?
Spotify is crashing on all my iOS 9 devices, two ipads and two iphones, using two different accounts, one premium and one free, funny thing is, it works when I stream via 3G but crashes when using WiFi, tried several WiFis and the result is the same
The same happends to me, if stops seems to restart and have to click the play button again.
Killing the applications or restarting the device works.
Technically, I thinks it's because the app is running a background server on the phone to deal with the stream/cache/decryption and that gets killed when the device runs out of memory.
Annoying nonetheless.
My stream stops after 1 min 3 sec. I reinstalled several times. Cleared all oter apps. Reinstalled once standing on my head. Finally left a bad review on Google play and it went away for about a month. It's back again. 1min 3 sec. We all need to leave a bad review.
