Streaming local files on my iPhone

How do I stream local files from my computer to my iPhone?

I do not want to sync local files for offline listening because they are already synced to my iPhone via iTunes.  Syncing them with Spotofy would only put a second copy on my phone and waste gigabytes of space unnecessarily.

Other apps allow you to stream local musc from a computer, e.g. using DLNA, so why can't Spotify's app do something similar between it and the Spotify program on a PC?

Alternatively, could Spotify be modified to play music files that are locally stored on the iPhone?
