Updated iPad/iPhone app only showing edited albums.

Updated iPad/iPhone app only showing edited albums.

I updated my iPad and iPhone app yesterday and the albums I was listening to have disappeared. It used to show both versions of the album, regular and edited, now I can only see edited / amended albums. Is this just a bug with the new app or will I only be able to access edited albums from now on? Is anyone else having this issue?

I have noticed this as well -- it isn't linked directly with an album being edited, it just seems to only show 1 album if there is more than 1 copy "linked".  I really like that feature how different versions of an album are all associated underneath 1 album, but on the new iOS app it is definitely impossible to get to the different versions.

For example... fun. - Some Nights.  If you go to the Artist page or search it only shows 1 copy of the album and it is the "commentary" version.  Hope this is fixed soon as it worked previously and showed 2 separate entries for the linked album.

Hello all,

I am disturbed that I can't enjoy my favorite Hip Hop artists because the mobile version is only listing the "edited" versions of the albums. Can someone please show me how I can access the "explicit" version of the albums on my iphone?

If the explicit albums are just not available on Spotify mobile, then that is very disheartening, as I am a premium member and would hate to cancel my membership because Spotify can't fix this problem.

Also, if there is a workaround, is there also a way to filter out the edited albums so when I search for an artist, only the explicit album pops up? I HATE clean versions of albums...

Please help me somebody!

I've already reported this but so far they have just ignored it.  I sent in using the Contact Form as well and just got a standard response of "sometimes the explicit albums are not available".

Plain and simple, the iOS Artist Pages does not show the available albums properly.

Man that's a bummer, as a third of what I got Spotify premium for is almost unplayable.

Thank you for your help Danc27.

This is happening to me as well. Why aren't they addressing this? Seriously, try listening to Dr. Dre edited The Next Episode is half silenced - come on, http://open.spotify.com/track/3tHEJsKdVY8mg7YGDpUIFM

Yeah, not too happy about this either. Downloaded and started my premium trial for a party this weekend, and friends won't be happy the music is censored.  Back to using iTunes I guess.

Hello,

That's very strange that you're only getting the clean / edited versions on the iOS app - Labels would tend to release two versions of the album, although the most popular one should be the album that appears first.

However, there should be a couple of ways to counter this.

1 - Create a playlist in advance on a computer. You should be able to find both the clean and explicit versions of the album fairly easily. In the screenshot below, you can see that there are the "clean" versions of some songs listed under "Additional Tracks".

You can also click the little arrow icon next to the "Star" option to see the different versions of the album. For example, looking at 2001 by Dr. Dre brings up a number of different versions, with Explicit or Clean stated in the track name

2 - More specialised searches in the iPhone/iPad.

All the different versions of the album should appear under the album tags, but you might have to get rather specific. So entering "2001 Dre" should bring up a couple of different versions of the album, and allow you to add the clean or explicit track where needed.

However, if you're only getting the clean version, we may need to dig a little deeper here...

You can find the unedited albums - search for a song title and you can find the unedited one. Weird glitch.

The second recommended solution WORKS! Do a more specific search 1- I tried 2001 Dre in albums and there is the explicit version. Phew! Thanks.

Part 2 of this IS the solution. Under ALBUMS do a more specific search - I tried 2001 Dre and the explicit album shows up.

Hey!

Glad to hear it works out. Just popped all your posts together to make things look a bit neater.

Well, I was excited for this workaround, until I discovered that apparently the album I was trying to listen to isn't even available on Spotify in its unedited version. So, this sucks.

Are you guys going to fix the Artist Page on the iOS apps?  Seems like having to do a workaround like this should not be needed.  It worked before the update.

I've gotta say, I've been pretty offended about this for the last couple of weeks/months. I don't see any value to Spotify Premium if they're going to be so terrible with app design and literally cut me off from my favorite albums I'm PAYING FOR except for these insultingly stupid edited versions. The app is woefully lacking in features and UI as it is, but to actually withhold content due to negligence is making me reconsider my subscription. I don't see how that's acceptable. Listening to Tenacious D scrubbed for children is absolutely absurd.

This issue isn't fixed. I created a playlist of explicit songs (marked Explicit in Spotify desktop) and then played them on my phone, and they were definitely censored. I then searched for a song that I knew was explicit, and played both versions that came up on the mobile app search, and they BOTH were censored. This is really, really frustrating and completely ruins a lot of songs I like. Please fix it. Thanks!

If this doesn't get fixed ASAP - and we don't get a timeline for resolution, I'm quitting Spotify and widely distributing the fact that Spotify is censoring their mobile music selection.

Hello.

Spotify does not censor music - Search for your favourite naughty word if you'd like some evidence of this. It sounds more a case of the search metadata providing some odd results. Do alternative albums appear when you search them? One could be clean, while the other is explicit.

nanane - That's certainly a little strange. Could you give me some examples of tracks? If we can replicate this, then I could escalate it for someone to take a closer look.

Hi David - I have this issue as well, go into Spotify's iPhone or iPad app and search for P!nk's new album. I don't really access Spotify on the computer so I figured all you had was the clean version and the commentary until a coworker played the explicit version in all its glory. I am amazed you all are not aware of this, I figured it had to be a policy not to allow dirty songs on iApps (which is rediculous because you can buy the songs in iTunes).

Open Spotify on the iPhone click Search > Artists > Kanye West > The College Dropout (20...

Awesome, thanks for all those screenshots.

This has been an issue since the universal app came out, yet no one seems to care.  I remember Rorey (I think) acknowledged it in another thread about it, but that was months ago.

The way to get around it is search for the album, that way it shows them all, but this is clunky.  There's no reason the artist page shouldn't show everything available for a particular album.

Spotify really needs to fix this. Tired of searching for songs just to hear the explicit version. Come on Spotify!
