Using Spotify via iPhone in the car

Hi, up until yesterday I could go to the next song in my playlist using a specific button on my car dash. Now when I want to skip to the next song, when I press it the next song plays for a second then pauses itself. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app but it hasn't worked. I don't want to have to manually press the next button on my phone as it's distracting and I should be able to enjoy it as Im used to by using my USB cord. Any ideas - if I can't use the app in my car I may as well cancel my subscription!
