As of Spotify 8.9.xx and newer I can't control the volume on my iPhone when casting to a Chromecast device. I need to go into the slider inside the Spotify app to change the volume.
This is not an iOS or apple issue:
My non working version of Spotify is 8.9.16.556 and just today updated to 8.9.18.xx which has the same bug.
On another iPhone a WORKING version of Spotify is 8.9.14.526
The latter works perfectly fine. It is not a iOS problem but a Spotify bug!
Both iPhones run iOS 17.3.1
If this is not being actively solved by Spotify I'm sorry to say I will cancel my subscription and change to Tidal. This is a CORE functionality.
Same here probably after the last iOS update
Update: There is actually a recent post about this bug and it is fixed with latest patch
Hi All. This may be a bit late as it is now 6/9/57, but I am running IOS 17.5.1 and just updated Spotify to 8.9.44.362 and the volume control buttons work again. Finally. The volume controls had not been working until I did this recent Spotify update that came out 1 day ago.
Yes, this happened to me at 1am this morning, I was asleep and it scared the life out of me
The previous answer was replying to the message about the volume going up to max by itself
I also didn't have the latest version of the Spotify App (v. 8.9.44.362) even though my iPhone is set to automatically update apps (As set in the Settings / App Store / App Updates (Set)). I forced the update to the latest version by doing the following:
1- Deleting the Spotify app from my phone (Press and hold the Spotify icon on the home screen / hit 'Remove App' / 'Delete App').
2- Re-download and install Spotify (Open App Store, find Spotify, install)
3- Problem resolved. Volume buttons work again!
Glad this community is here to help
I had to do the same routine (delete, reload, install).
wth! This is a main feature of using Spotify native app through Sonos. Fix it please immediately or I’ll be canceling all my Spotify accounts.
Also the moderator said due to update in iOS we can’t control the volume of external speakers … weird because I can cast overcast to my Sonos via airplay and the volume control works both on my phone and watch just fine soooo… are we talking different protocols don’t work or something because the use case appears the same from the user perspective
Deleting, reinstalling. This worked for me. Volume control is back! Thank you!
Hi all
update from me.
my Spotify app on iPhone updated from App Store and now volume control using buttons working again. So thank you Spotify for sorting this! It is appreciated and makes a big difference to my everyday experience of Spotify as I have 3 Bose systems around the house and I listen all day long.
also thanks to the community for voicing their views as it all helps. And also roycomputer (I think it was the right name) for taking to twitter about it.
For ref, I'm now on version 8.9.44.362
So basically Spotify f-ed up and blamed it on Apple and lied to us here that it’s Apple’s fault, lol. Nice managing, Spotify.
Which post are you referring to? I’d like to read it.
Same here, absurd
Just noticed there's a new spotify release on app store 👀...
Should we update or this bs I'll bring up again?
Still not working with Chromecast Audio + Spotify 8.9.48.455 and iOS 17.5.1
Event after uninstall/reinstall
edit : finally working 2 days after, but without any action. Strange behaviour, seems not very consistant
Mine worked for a while but they’re not working again. wth Spotify???!!!!
Volume control on my iPhone 15 Pro Max version 17.5.1 is not working on Spotify version 8.9.48. It was working for a short while but now it’s not again! 🤬. I can’t adjust the volume of my Sonos speaker from my iPhones volume up/down buttons. This is ridiculous Spotify!!! 🤬. This time I’m definitely cancelling my premium subscription and switching to Tidal. I’ve had enough of this nonsense!!! 🤬
Volume Buttons are not working... AGAIN!
iOS 17.6-
Spotify this is wild!
Updating to Spotify 8.9.48 on my iPhone (iOS 17.5.1) solved the device volume control issue for me.
It's amazing how anyone would think that saying you quit your subscription would motivate a juggernaut like Spotify (or any software company for that matter) to fix something they probably will with some patience and loyal users. Good luck with transferring all the playlists and songs.
