As of Spotify 8.9.xx and newer I can't control the volume on my iPhone when casting to a Chromecast device. I need to go into the slider inside the Spotify app to change the volume.
This is not an iOS or apple issue:
My non working version of Spotify is 8.9.16.556 and just today updated to 8.9.18.xx which has the same bug.
On another iPhone a WORKING version of Spotify is 8.9.14.526
The latter works perfectly fine. It is not a iOS problem but a Spotify bug!
Both iPhones run iOS 17.3.1
If this is not being actively solved by Spotify I'm sorry to say I will cancel my subscription and change to Tidal. This is a CORE functionality.
On reddit they say that's fixed with the beta version; I think they are waiting for Apple approval for the new app, the first one after the DMA took action so, knowing Apple, they will scrutinize every single bit of their app to find something to complain about 😞
Oh god lol. Ok welp, I guess I’ll cancel until it’s fixed and continue to enjoy my free trial of Apple Music that work just fine.
Give it 12 hours, and while working out later yesterday with my iPhone, my Spotify volume control was working again. That after not using it since first thing in the morning, when that was not working. From my iPhone right now, it similarly adjusts the volume on my notebook's and desktop's Spotify apps, so it's working as it should / used to.
The vital statistics at my end:
iPhone 13 mini + iOS 17.3.1 + Spotify 8.9.19.571 = volume buttons work
Notebook pc + Spotify 1.2.32.997.g4c6498b6 = volume buttons work
Desktop pc + Spotify 1.2.33.1039.g8ddb5918 = volume buttons work
Both my notebook Spotify app and iPhone OS are alerting me that updates are available. I'll pass for today, not wanting to jinx anything...
Hm, I just got the update, reinstalled the watch app, annnnnnd....disappointment. Still not workingI'll check again in 12 hrs as you suggested to see if it might work, but lol not holding out any special hope.
I uninstalled/reinstalled Spotify and can now use my iPhone 15 side volume buttons on my Samsung Frame. Hope that helps everyone.
Which iOS? Which Spotify version?
OK, so when will you fix it so it works again ?
When connecting to Spotify connect, I cannot control volume (side iPhone buttons). By default it is silent, so I can not raise the volume at all. This used to work fine in the past. Even using system volume control by sliding down on screen does not work.
I can raise the volume from my Mac Spotify, therefore it is defenetly iOS+Spotify issue, not the client.

My Question or Issue
After the latest update my watch crown no longer controls the volume, instead it sometimes choses favourite (heart symbol) on and off on the current track.
can you fix this please?
The volume slider in Spotify is grayed out and I can no longer control my volume with the latest update.
I second this. Prior to iOS 17.4, I was able to change the volume on my speaker through Spotify connect via the side buttons (or via the control center slider). This currently doesn’t work. To change the volume I have to select the audio source in the app and change the volume. So somewhere along the use case flow the instructions from system volume control to the app aren’t being passed through after the update.

I don’t believe this is the case. There are other apps that still allow the capability to control chromecast audio volume within app using the iPhones buttons while casting. Ie: YouTube. The fact you are saying it’s an iOS change or limitation would imply that this function is no longer possible, but seeing that it is still possible in other apps, like YouTube, means it’s not an Apple iOS limitation, and perhaps a Spotify limitation on updating your iOS app to return functionality.
Can you post the link to this Reddit post please?
This is complete nonsense. It’s a Spotify bug. Just downloaded deezer and I can control the volume of my chromecast audio with my volume buttons fine on iOS 17.4. I will be cancelling my subscription to Spotify if this is not corrected.
This is just lies. It’s not an iOS issue it’s a Spotify issue. So now I can’t use basic controls on the device that I use more than half the time to use your produce. Fix it or we (iOS) leave!!!
This is not true. As already stated, other apps do work with iOS 17.4. These kinds of short-sighted answers only cause annoyance.
Same problem here - IOS
Neither side volume nor control center volume from the menu works.
Casting to Amazon Echo across 5 speakers. Spotify, please get this fixed as this is core functionality. No point having a premium account if Spotify marks this off as "Wont Fix"
Same problem. This is not an issue with iOS, this is a Spotify bug. Extremely annoying, appreciate fixing this ASAP, (or at least offering a faster way to control casting volume to other devices than going through 4 different screens). Thank you.
