Won't play anything when first opening app on ios

Every time I open Spotify to begin listening it shows null on the song timing and won't play anything until I close out the app and re open. It has been doing this for over a month now. My app and phone are both up to date and have been turned on and off recently

It seems that this issue is isolated to your case, so I'd first recommend clearing your cached data as shown here to see if that would make a difference.
If this doesn't help out, you can go one step further and do a complete clean reinstall of the app.

Tip: Keep in mind that after resetting the cached data, you'd have to re-download your saved offline content.
This will happen automatically upon reopening the app, but I'd recommend doing this when you have a stable Wi-Fi connection.
