very confused with Data

For the past two weeks I've used Spotify on my iphone 5 in my car and no data has been used up according to cellular usage in the phone settings. I was on 4G. Thinking it was a 4G problem I switcthed to 3G today as a test and ran spotify radio for a full 3 hours at home. Again no data is listed still says sent 0 bytes and receved 0 bytes. However if I sync using 3G or 4G it shows data charges. What is going on?? Is this normal?

Where are you collecting those data figures from? 

Is it possible your playing tracks from an offline playlist (which would stream from the phone memory) or you are listening to content you have played before (since it might be temporarily cached)?

As I said in my post above, I'm getting the data from the built in data usage on my iphone under settings/general/usage/cellular usage. I'm running the radio. I ran the radio for three hours listening to songs I've never heard before so it's not cached.

The cellular usage is tracking everything else except for spotify so I know it's not a defective phone

Does the Spotify application track when you are using WiFi? 

Was talking to a member of the staff about this earlier, he was as stumped as me! Are you using 4G? If so it could be an issue since Spotify do not yet officially support 4G services.

I'm using 3G. Wifi has no data tracking. The only thing I see of spotify is that it's used 589 MB in three weeks.
