Spotify crashes when adding/removing tracks from playlist

Solved!

Spotify crashes when adding/removing tracks from playlist

So I'm listening to a Radio, a song comes up that I want to add to a playlist, I click on teh album art and select add to playlist select the playlist then BAM music stops, dissapears. I'm rocking a W7 with plenty of memory (8core) NO reason for it to crash.

Also went to play Que to add the song Still crashes

If you can help it would be appreciated cause I'm getting angry.

So I'm running tests to see what can cause this.  Before I went to lunch, I closed spotify and then opened it again and left.  I had no songs playing just had it open.  I have been gone about an hour and I added and deleted a song with no problems.

No I have started playing a song, I'm going to try to add or remove a song after each song I play to try to track the time.  I report any updates I find.

EDIT:

I left it playing songs for 15 min and tried to add a song and BAM closed, NO errors in my logs.  I am going to try to run this in forced admin and see how that works out.

Edit 2:

After starting it with forced Admin, 15 min of playing I tried to add song to a playlist and BOOM closed.  I'm going to try looping the same song over and over, wait 15 min and then try to add a song.  At this point I'm just trying anything to get some facts down.

Edit 3:

Here is what I have, If I am always messing with spotify in some way I can delete songs and add them with no issues.  If I leave it 100% along for 5min and it will close when I add or remove.

If I play a song NOT MY PLAYLIST I can add and remove from my playlist after the 5 min mark.  If I switch to a playlist song after a non playlist song it does not happen..

That's it, I can't think of any other way to test it.  5min of inactivity while playing a song in your playlist seems to be the trigger to a crash.

@oriol1992:

Same here.  I will not be paying spotify a single cent more until they fix this.  I am so sick of them constantly finding new and inventive ways to ruin this once-great service.  Nobody at spotify deserves to be paid until they can fix this broken bull**bleep**.

I switched over to rdio.com.  They actually have the new tuesday release albums with a new release LINK-something spotify took away

Same issue here, it triggers after a commercial or inactivity. It's quite frustrating :s

OS 10.8.4

App version : 0.9.1.57.ge7405149

I am having the same issue as well.  Running Windows 7.  I will be listening to music for a while, and then I will try and add songs to a playlist and Spotify just exits.  This has been happening for a couple of days now.

Also having problems when I drag and drop to a playlist, have had this happen from albums and from play queue. When releasing the track on a list everything freezes and crashes directly after. This has happened four times now in an hour.

(NOT using Radio)

Version: 0.9.1.57.ge7405149

OS X 10.8.4

EDIT:

As mentioned in earlier replies it seems to have something to do with inactivity. I paused Spotify for a couple of minutes, pressed play on my keyboard, switched over to Spotify and drag & drop, then it crashed. I was playing from an album, not one of my lists.

This happens to me too - running Windows 8 x64 and Spotify 0.9.1.57.ge7405149. When deleting music from a playlist using right-click delete, or the delete key, Spotify quits immediately. Only happens every 8th / 10th deletion... doesn't happen every time. Any ideas?

Why does the first post direct to a solution that's not even a solution? I (still) can't change anything (deleting and adding) in my playlists while listening to music. That's the point. The solution (when not playing anything, apparently) is completely irrelevant. Please keep voting the 'me too' in the first post if you keep experiencing this problem, everyone.

Normally I have a good experience with Spotify, it's why I subscribed to Premium in the first place, but I find myself using Windows Media Player right now and that really is a very very bad sign.

edit: oh and windows 7/64 and the same spotify as everyone else seems to use here.

I am having the same sort of problem.  It doesn't happen on every song; usually I can add two or three songs before my window closes.

Just roll us back to the older Spotify client until you have a update for this bug because Spotify is useless at the moment, it doesn't work.

And update the skin and make a black and white and some colored skins for Spotify.

So, my scenario was deleting from a playlist while something was playing would crash. I'd start back up, delete the track I was trying to delete (successfully this time), then start playing - the next time I deleted a track, crash. This is a "Review" playlist where, if I'm paying attention, I will move the track to another playlist and delete it from the current (review) playlist - sometimes while it's still playing, sometimes when the next track is playing.

I reinstalled about 5:30pm, and got through 3-4 delete cycles successfully, Paused for dinner, came back about 7:20pm, and my first deletion attempt crashed. I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.8. Following the reinstall, I see the following pattern every 10 seconds in the console log (I do not see it in the log before the reinstall):

9/17/13 5:37:50 PM    com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[440]    (com.spotify.webhelper[517]) posix_spawn("/Users/mikeryan/Library/Application Support/Spotify/SpotifyWebHelper", ...): No such file or directory
9/17/13 5:37:50 PM    com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[440]    (com.spotify.webhelper[517]) Exited with exit code: 1
9/17/13 5:37:50 PM    com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[440]    (com.spotify.webhelper) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

Indeed, there is no SpotifyWebHelper there.

At about the crash time:

I have crash dump files and console output.  Where do I send them?

When it happens, quickly hit the "Print screen/SysRq" button just above the Numbers keyboad.   Then mouse over and Click the "Start" button. Click on "All Programs."  Then Click on "Accessories", then click on "Paint".  You can then click on "Edit" and then "Paste".

I have another question to ask:  How do we send the DMP files to Spotify?  And will they even look at them?

No solutions yet despite hundreds of users having this problem? I'm sure someone knows what new changes were made and can trouble shoot likely culprits.  Makes me lose faith in Spotify and their ability to code/go through QA.  How does a bug that causes crashes on a common action on both Win and Mac make it through QA testing?

@jaystarkey

I think the answer is they don't actually do any QA testing. They just throw up whatever bloated bull**bleep** they feel like forcing on us this update and then rely on us to do the testing for them.

Installing an old version of Spotify is a decent temporary fix. At least 0.9.1.53 seems to work for me.

The client will update to the bad version if you restart Spotify, but at least I have it running for weeks so it doesn't matter.

Information:

- 64-bit Windows 8 Pro, version 0.9.1.57ge... has the same bug for me.

- As some have noted, it really seems to come down to letting the music play in the background for a while.

- For me the best way to reproduce the crash is to drag the current playing track to another playlist and then delete it from the playlist where it is currently playing. (At least when the track has almost played through)

I've been having this issue for about a week, too, on several machines. No need to describe it. Running on Windows XP Pro, Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 8 Pro (Core i5 Quad Core, 8GB RAM).

I have the same problem. Unistaal and install again and the problem remains...

Thanks. I'll send an email and if you could please attach them in your reply we'll send them to our team who are investigating.

If anyone would like to do the same, please see this post for how to get the crash dump files. Thanks if you've already done this, and to everyone for your patience while this is being looked into.

As always, you can contact us through our website. Just send a message with your case reference number to a Moderator and we'll help out so you can attach the files.
