Account email addresses can be duplicated

Two different people can register for a Spotify account with the same email address. This is because GMail ignores the '.' character in an email address. For example, the addresses "johndoe@gmail.com" and "john.doe@gmail.com" are equivalent to Gmail, but Spotify treats them as distinct email addresses.

Why is this a problem? It's a problem because another user can register an account with your email address, and you will receive that user's account notifications, seemingly with no way to turn off those notifications.

This rule specifically applies only for email created via google. Please get in touch with Spotify to check what they can do about this.
