How does having 'Premium' allow you to listen to music offline all of a sudden?

Solved!

How does having 'Premium' allow you to listen to music offline all of a sudden?

Pretty noob question here. Although, there is probably something technical related to it so I thought I would ask.

Ok so you need internet to listen to music for free.

But how does purchasing 'Premium' all of a sudden allow you to listen to music offline? How does the whole thing work? Does some setting change within Spotify/Your phone that allows music without internet?

I am also thinking of buying the student version. Does it automatically allow me to listen to offline whenever and wherever? There is a settting on the app that says "download", then it mentions you need premium. I dont want to download the songs on my phone though if I purchase premium...?

Thanks! 🙂

Hey @CozzieP,

Once you've upgraded to Premium, you can make songs available offline by following the instructions from this video:

Premium and the student discount thing have pretty much the same features - The only difference is the price. Premium costs $9.99 and student discount costs only $4.99

Hope this helps!

Hi!

So, the purpose of the feature is to download the music you want in a playlist or in your Spotify song library so it's avaliable to play when you're away from any wifi. That way you aren't hogging up data when you're on LTE servers or if you have absolutely no data at all.

I attached a picture on how you do it. I'm on a desktop platform but the process is the same with mobile. Just slide the button to the right and you're set!

Have a great day!

Oh. So enabling the 'download' feature does not actually download it on your phone and hog up data space? I remember seeing a 'play offline' mode/feature but its not their anymore.

Once you have premium, the only way to play without internet is to enable the 'download' feature? What if I want to play any of the hundreds of categories spotify has to offer, such as jazz. Do I click on the category and enable 'download' so I can listen offline?

Yes! Correct! 😄

I actually don't believe that's possible? Unless you were to download specific playlists in a Jazz section before you were to go offline, or make a playlist of your Jazz favorites and then download that. Sorry for the inconvience! You should try and reccomend that feature to Spotify.
