The mixtape was the original playlist. You could record different artists, different music, and have it all on one tape for your listening convenience. Well, I have a brand new idea for how to introduce a new type of “mixtape” in Spotify in 2021. One of my biggest bugs when using Spotify if that you can’t listen to different playlists at the same time. Enter the new Spotify “Mixtape” feature. This new feature would allow you to gather multiple different playlists, and/or songs and/or albums under one umbrella so you can listen to their music altogether. However, unlike the current format of playlists, my vision for “Mixtapes” is not for them to be a lasting folder filled with playlists and albums, rather a brief medium where you can listen to multiple albums, songs or playlists shuffled... right now. If you really wanted them all together for the long haul, it would be much easier to just make a big playlist that contained all the songs you wanted to keep listening to every time you start the playlist. The “Mixtape” is for right here, right now. You would ‘start’ the “Mixtape”, select which playlist(s), and/or album(s), and/or song(s) you wanted to listen to, and then either shuffle, or play through the songs. As soon as you ‘end’ the “mixtape”, it’s over. If you want to hear that combination of music again, you can start a new “Mixtape” with the same content, or you can change it up. For example, let’s say I have multiple different playlists containing my favorite songs from different artists. I’m in the mood for Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood, so I start a “mixtape”, select my “Keith Urban Favs” and “Carrie Underwood Favs” playlists and then hit shuffle. Then I get to listen to the songs I’ve already put on those two playlists shuffled, until I end the “mixtape”. In another example scenario, let’s say I want to listen to Garth Brooks, U2, and a song by The Band CAMINO. I want to listen to the Garth Brooks Favs playlist I’ve already created, the album “The Joshua Tree” by U2, and “Less Than I Do” by The Band CAMINO. I can start a “mixtape”, select the playlist, album, and song, and begin listen to those three things on shuffle, or straight through, whichever I choose. The reason it is better for “mixtapes” to be temporary is because the music we are in the mood for changes so often, so there would be endless “mixtapes” filled with whatever music we wanted to listen to at the time, and then a new “mixtape” would have to be created to listen to a new combination. It is far better for “mixtapes” to be momentary so you can choose whatever combination of playlists, albums, and songs you wish to listen to at the time. Spotify users, if you see this and like it, please comment and approve my idea so SPOTIFY the company can see it and maybe it can become a reality. SPOTIFY if you end up seeing this, thank you for taking the time to read my idea, if you think this idea has merit please consider moving forward with steps to possibly implement it.
