I click restart partway through song but it doesn't restart, just continues

I'll play a song and I want to restart it but when I click restart the progress bar goes to the beginning but the song itself continues as if I didn't click restart

Hi there,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for reaching out!

Could you please explain what you mean by restarting the track? Pressing the Play button would either pause the track (if it was playing) or continue the playback (if the track was previously paused). A way to restart the track is either to tap it again (double-click it if you're using the desktop app) or by tapping the "Previous button" once, though the latter option becomes available only when you've listened to the current track for more than two seconds.

In any case, a short screen recording which shows the behavior you describe in action would be greatly appreciated. That way we can get a clear understanding of how things look on your end.

Cheers!

Hello!

When I click the "previous button" the song continues and doesn't restart but the progress bar goes back to the beginning.  The progress bar will also sometimes go to the beginning of the song after I pause the song and when I hit play again the song will continue where I left off but the progress bar starts from the beginning.

Hi @morgansoawesome,

Thank you for getting back in touch with us and for the explanation.

To start with we'd like to suggest that you remove any possible corrupt cache files by following the steps in this article.

If that doesn't; do the trick, can you let us know which device/devices this occurs on?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Take care!

Hello,

Unfortunately, it did not work.  I am using a MacBook Pro.

Thank you for helping

Hey @morgansoawesome,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Have you tried performing a clean reinstall of the app on your Mac? Here is how to do it.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, could you try reproducing it with another account on the same device but with a different internet connection?

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

Same issue here! Been going on for a week now.

Hey @Spyin

Thanks for getting in touch about this.

Just to confirm, have you tried reinstalling the app with the steps @Dian sent previously?

If that doesn't do the trick, we recommend trying with a different network, for example creating a hotspot on your phone and using that.

Also, could you let us know if the same happens on the web player

Keep us posted.

I have a similar issue with the iOS app. On the media player screen (the screen where play/pause, next track, and previous track buttons reside), when tapping the previous track button while a song is currently playing, the progress bar goes to zero but the track continues playing as if the previous track button was never pressed to begin with. To work around this issue, I either have to tap previous track again to actually get to the previous track and then tap next track or vice versa.  I have also found that tapping the song again from my Liked Songs works as a workaround.

i am currently running Spotify version 8.7.28.1589 on an iPhone 11 loaded with iOS 15.4.
