Incorrect (and slightly embarassing) top artists

Incorrect (and slightly embarassing) top artists

Hi there

On my spotify profile, my top artists are constantly wrong and feature artists I never listen to - and that don't feature in any of my playlists. Why is this happening and what can I do to fix it, it's starting to damage my street cred 🙂
I hate Akon and he's been sitting at the top for while...

Thanks

same problem here

Spotify is great but would be soo much better if we could have more control over our displayed top artists and tracks. I also would like it for my own interest, I like to see the statistics of my music listening.

Of course, I have the same issues of others here where artists I listened to once will be in my top artists list and artists that I listen to all day will be absent from the list. Why? It makes no sense. for my 10 bucks a month I would be happy to see it fixed.

I'm having a similar problem, although my 'Top Artists' aren't embarassing pop artists, but bands/people I've never heard of and am sure I could have only played once or twice through a random playlist if at all. I have a few artists that I overplay to the point of embarassment, yet none of these feature on my top lists... Confusing and annoying!

Same here. A song I played for about 10 seconds is appearing in my favourite bands list. Was showing someone else Spotify at the time and it was their choice not mine. Stuff I am actually listening to is not appearing despite being starred and added to a playlist.

Same here!!! Fix this problem Spotify, it has been going on for almost a year now!

At least you guys didn't get stuck with Milli Vanilli. C'mon Spotify?!

I think the day I first installed the app I searched for a song and played it from the results page. Next up was Milli Vanilli. Killed it aftera few seconds but now I'm stuck with it as my number 2 Top Artist.

Going into hiding now.

I too am having this problem. The songs listed as my top tracks are actually songs that my roomate (who has his own Spotify premium account)  recently listened to.  Songs that I have never listened to on my spotify account are being shown as my top tracks, such as David Bowie "Queen **bleep**".    I connect my spotify account to my blog. it's important that it's accurate as it is my main tool for sharing music publicly.

I also tried to make Top Tracks hidden and it didn't work by going into my preferences.  Please let me know how I can fix this or at least cover it up!

Same problem here. Please get this fixed or at least let us manually enter our top artists.

Same problem for me.

All the top artists are people i have never heard of.

samesies!!!

Same problem here.  My top artists include bands that I've never listened to or only listened to 1 time.  Meanwhile, artists I actually listen to doesn't show up.  I've got a Premium subscription.

Yep, same thing here. I've been using Spotify Unlimited for a few months now and there's only one band displayed as a top artist.

The weirdest part is that I had never even listened to this particular band. Never. Nor one of their tracks that seems to be my one and only top track...

Apparently I'm not the only one having this problem, though 😄

Edit

I thought this issue was fixed but it seems that it's happening again.

Hi,

i just started 2 weeks ago with spotify and I already have a wrong top list.

At least in this thread i read some answers of spotify staff.

Perhaps my account helps to detect the problem, but i am sure it should be easy to see that there is a bug.

Tracks are very obvious because 7 of 10 songs i listened only once.

Artists list also contains 3 of 6 where the stats must be wrong.

Is there an official corner where I can watch this or similiar topics ?

Or do all users have to search through the community ?

Kind Regards

and I Hope you can fix it soon !

BTW Congrats !

- because this service is great - Perhaps the next milestone after wiki, google and imdb ?

Hi Rocio, I'm having this exact same issue and it is very frustrating/embarrassing. How would you feel if two tracks by Enya were on your top tracks for the world to see? I'll admit that played "The Best of Enya" ONE TIME when I had a migrane but other than that, I have NEVER listened to her on Spotify!! It seems like there are many other people having this problem and Spotify needs to develop a better system here. Perhaps a way to manually refresh settings instead of relying on the automatic two week refresh? As a premium subscriber, I expect more accuracy from this service! At any rate, both my top artists and tracks are humiliatingly off and I want it fixed. It's sooooooo off. I also can't figure out how to turn this information private like in this answer, but I don't want to do that anyway! Please help...

Same problem here. Listen to a song once and the song and artist remains on the tops lists.

Same problem. How much could be hard create a top list based on number of listening?

Springsteen listened 12 times

U2 listened 9 time

Dire Straits listened 15 times

TOP LIST
1 DIRE STRAITS

2 SPRINGSTEEN

3 U2

not three random guys that you may have heard one or two times.

I also have this same issue.  My top artists are incorrect and not even close.

Last FM scrobbles everything, so at least I can find the correct info there.  It would be nice though if Spotify would have more accurate information on my listening habits.  I wonder what sort of impact this has on my "Recommended" options from Spotify as well.

Mine are only slightly incorrect, but really confusing. I've been on a Tegan and Sara craze and have been listening to every single one of their songs non-stop for the past week. They're my number 3 on Top Artists. Arcade Fire, who I have listened to twice, are my number one. Of Monsters and Men are my second, and I've listened to them about 4 times. Really, the only artists I listen to are Tegan and Sara, Mumford and Sons, Imagine Dragons, and the xx. That's it. Imagine Dragons is my 5th and Tegan and Sara is 3rd, but the other two aren't even on there. Metric is on there and I've listen to maybe two of their songs! This is getting really frustrating.

I'm having the same issue. I played Nellie Furtado once in the office for a gag and now apparently she is my fourth most loved artist. Needless to say my friends are having fun with this. If I get another Nellie Furtado gift I might actually have to become a genuine fanboy.

Additionally, and perhaps less embarrassingly, I don't think I've ever played Hall and Oates, let alone anything from Daryl Hall's illustrious solo career - and they're my second and third top artists.

i'm having the same problem. i have the top artists and top tracks feature turned off, but i'm still seeing one top artist and one top track show up on my public profile (yes, even when viewed from another computer on a friends account), and the track is something i previewed for 15 seconds. why oh why spotify. i love you so, but this is mildly frustrating.
