Other user allowed to register with my mail address

I don't want to reveal my e-mail address in public, but let's say it's "firstname.lastname@gmail.com". I've used this to register my Spotify account. Now another user has registered his Spotify account using "firstnamelastname@gmail.com" (a [.] is the only  difference).

The way e-mail works, no matter how few or many stops you put in an e-mail address, it's still the same address. So now I get all notifications for this user's subscriptions and his friends' activities.

1. Could someone from Spotify make this person choose a correct mail address?

2. Should Spotigy make it impossible to register the wrong address like this?
