Payment Country

Payment Country

I am no American, nor do I live in the united states, but my debit card is from an American Bank, with the home address the bank has on file in the Dominican Republic.

In 2025 with the word digital nomad thoroughly ingrained into léxica and Wikipedia it should come as no surprise that people live in other countries than the country they been born in.

That being said, why do I need a credit card from the dominican republic to use my account. Also, why does it change my account location everytime I change countries. It changed from Colombia to Dominican Republic without me doing the change.

If I fly to china tomorrow and stay there for 6 months does that mean I now need a Chinese bank account.

Additionally, why does it want to charge in USD for accounts in the Dominican republic when the official currency is DOP.

Hey @Migs20,

Thanks for reaching out!

Spotify requires that your payment method be issued in the same country as your account. This means that if your account is set to the Dominican Republic, your payment method also needs to be from there. Since your debit card is from a U.S. bank, it wouldn’t be considered a valid payment method for a Spotify account set to the Dominican Republic. You can find more info about this here.

Your country setting doesn’t update automatically when traveling. If you’re on the free plan and move to a new country, you’ll need to manually update your country setting in your account page within 14 days to keep listening. If you’re on Premium, your account stays set to the country of your payment method.

As for the currency, Spotify determines pricing and billing currency based on various factors, including local regulations and payment processing systems. While the official currency in the Dominican Republic is DOP, certain payment providers may still process transactions in USD.

Hope this clears things up! Let me know if you have any other questions. 🙂
