Payment via PayPal failed

Payment via PayPal failed

Spotify sent me a Notification, that my Payment failed because PayPal declined the transaction, but PayPal told me they never declined the request, because they never even got the request.

 

And best of all: there seems to be no possibility to call Spotify or Chat with an Support-Employee or something like that...

@Maraldur However, I was re-reading your previous message and I got an idea flash; were you using the Student Discount? If so, it would explain why PayPal is not available as an option for you since you can currently pay via credit or debit card. If so, it's worth a shot to vote for thisideahere to add your support 🙂

PayPal is not available as a payment method for now. I'd suggest you try another method 🙂 As for getting in touch with support, you can always send them a DM or tweet on their Twitter handle @SpotifyCares

PayPal not available? I've been using it to pay for Spotify Premium for years. Will my next payment get declined?

It's indeed gone right now. I've confirmed it through Spotify's support, they don't know when it'll work again. Everyone have to change payment method until it works again.

 

I've got the same problem over here in Germany. I used spotify student for over a year now, paying via paypal. Last week i got the same message as you and I decided to double check it.
The interesting part: I can indeed buy spotify premium via paypal, just not the student version! I still have the option to pay via paypal and other services if I try to buy normal spotify but it disappears when selecting the student version.... I am left confused???

I too have been paying for Spotify Premium through PayPal. Wonder why they offered that option if they don't allow it. I am totally confused.
That said, I have received notification that my payment was declined, yet there is more than enough in the bank account to cover it and my account statement, as of 5 minutes ago, shows no attempt to credit the account. How can a payment that's never gone through be declined?

Same here. I used another payment method now the last months. Now a friend told me, paypal works again and he indeed pays via paypal.
Well, there I go and try it out myself. It does give me the option to pay with paypal now, but alike your case, it states that something with my paypal must be wrong and therefore the payment failed.
Thing is, my paypal is perfectly fine. I just bought something else and the payment went through without any problems.
What is going on here, Spotify?

thanks for thinking about my problem. This troubleshooting guide was indeed new to me, till today i only tried the trouble shooting guide about paying with paypal, not this general one. I tried the only thing I had left to do, trying to change the payment method to paypal while I am in the incognito mode; did not help 😕

I tried to change it to paypal everyday of the last week, seems not to work for me. Really don't know if it is connected to the student version.

That sounds very odd. I'd suggest using the links in @RodrigoPalma's reply above and getting in touch with a member of the Spotify staff so that they can take a look backstage for you. Keep in mind to reply to any automated response you'll receive (even if it's from a no-reply!) if you use the contact form. Support usually gets back within 24-48 hours 🙂

I ended up giving up. Spotify didn’t seem very interested in trying to deal with the situation. As such, I just let my subscription to the Premium version expire.

I do use the student discount. I guess thats what its all about. Since the day I got problems with paypal, I thought of it as a problem just with the student discount.

Back then I could even use paypal if I switch off the student discount.

Though back then it did not even show paypal as a payment option if I was going for the studend discount. NOW it does show paypal as an option, but it is still not working but telling me theres a mistake with paypal, not with spotify (which is wrong).

I just thought they might have changed it already and paypal was available again, just bugged for me. Thanks for showing me the "New idea"-Vote, that definetly needs some more support; thats exactly the way to solve my problem! 🙂

Is it still running though? It appears to be a year old (=dead)?

I have the same trouble here.

it's the second month I'm using Premium and the last month the payment was correct. But this month Spotify notifies me that the payment can't be made and redirects me to add the credit card (when I already have a credit card on myPayPal!). I don't understand at all and can't find the possibility to contact Spotify directly to ask what is going on.

some advise please?
