Randomizing my username

Randomizing my username

Now that Spotify has pushed display names, I would like my original username to be a randomly-generated name instead. I started Spotify with a basic first-last name, but because that is visible in my profile link, I do not want it anymore.

Logging into Facebook is not an option. Starting a new account is not an option.

I am posting this here because I can't find a Spotify support email anywhere.

Thanks.

Hey @user-removed ,

Thanks for reaching out.

Just to clarify, are you trying to change your username or display name?

Your username is designed to identify you on Spotify, so you can't change it. A display name replaces the username where it shows on your profile, app, and playlists.

If you'd like to have a different (randomly generated) username, you'll need to sign up for a new account.

You can change your display on desktop and in the web player by following these steps:

  1. Click on the arrow down icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Profile.
  3. Click on your profile name and edit the details.
  4. Click SAVE.

On mobile, you can do it by following these steps:

  1. Tap Home (menu icon)
  2. Tap Settings (in the top-right corner)
  3. Tap View profile.
  4. Tap EDIT PROFILE.
  5. Tap your display name to change it.
  6. Tap Save.

Yes, I said username and not display name. My username is visible in my profile link. Support can change it, they offered it before, I have the support emails to prove it, but I did not get back to them. Unfortunately, that email is no longer active.

I understand if they don't want to change it for "personalized" reasons, that is not my goal. I just want my username to be randomized like everyone else.

Also, like I said, dropping my six year account, with all the yearly playlists, is not an option.

Hey @user-removed ,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I've double-checked and can confirm that usernames can't be changed 🙂

If you need further assistance with this, you can reach out to Spotify's Support team through any of these channels.

Thanks for contacting support for me. Please ask them if it would be possible to create a new account and then transfer all my data from my old account.

Hey again, @user-removed,

Just to be clear, you'll need to reach out to Spotify's Support Team yourself through any of these channels. This is so that they can look into your account and take the appropriate steps.

I've only checked backstage with one of the Spotify Community Moderators 🙂

Hope this clears things up!
