Spotify keeps playing random songs whenever I don't use the app for a bit.

Spotify keeps playing random songs whenever I don't use the app for a bit.

So for about a week now, I've found random songs from unknown artists (less then 1000 monthly listeners) in my listen history. i know i didn't play them so at first i thought my account was compromised, so i logged out everywhere and changed the password. bht it kept happening. So i did some research, cleared the cache of my Spotify app and scanned for malware but it still happened.

Today though i was just doing some work whilst listening to some music and i paused it for maybe 10 min and when i looked back it was playing one of those random songs again with the volume all the way down.

I've looked across the whole internet and the only thing i found is that my account may somehow be part of a botnet that people can pay to get their monthly listeners up. Also apparently the "log out everywhere" isn't as reliable as i thought since some devices can somehow keep the login token even after logging out.

Anyway I'm kinda lost at this point, the only other thing i see that would maybe help is if someone from the Spotify team manually invalidated every token but it's really hard to get in contact with anyone of their tech support it seems.

Hey @Homzy, thanks for reaching out to the Community!

I’m sorry to hear about this! In this case, I’d recommend checking out this support article for the next steps to take.

To prevent this from happening in the future, there are many measures you can take to protect your account, such as resetting your password every few months, and not using passwords you have used on other sites. There is also a great guide here for some more measures on protecting your account.

If you see an email from Spotify, and can’t tell if it’s legit, use this checklist. Of course, Spotify makes sure that all user records and platforms are completely secure around the clock.

I hope this helps.

Hey,

As stated in my original post, I've already tried all of those steps and it didn't work. i never use the same passwords and i even removed every login method except for the Google login because that's my most secure account and im 100% certain that's not compromised.

Just to clarify I've done my research on this and im pretty sure it's just lingering login token that some bot uses to log in over and over again. That's why i need someone from the Spotify team to invalidate all of the tokens.

The "log out everywhere" button doesn't invalidate tokens from things like Bluetooth speakers so i myself can't do much at this point.

Thanks for the reply though.

Hey @Homzy,

Thanks for the reply!

Having taken a look at what you've described, it looks to me like some third party app may be influencing your listening activity! What I'd advise in this situation is to write down/ screenshot the apps that you have now and to then disconnect them one by one. Any apps that don't have anything to do with the issue can later be re-added at your convenience 🙂

Note that the 'Sign out everywhere' option has some limitations and doesn’t include partner devices (ex. speakers, games consoles, and TVs), so for those you'll need to go to your apps page and choose Remove Access.

Tip: Here you can find some additional steps to secure your account.

Hope this helps you out. Keep us posted on how things go!

Hii,

This was also recommended to be by various sources but to no avail, I've removed every single app except for the "Spotify premium plan" one bc i get  my Spotify premium from a family account and it's a salary bonus thing.

I've also went through every device that was connected to my Spotify and logged out of them and deleted their cache files but it still keeps happening...

Hey @Homzy,

Thanks for your response.

That's actually the only one you need to remove as pointed out in this thread. Rest assured that your subscription status isn't dependent on any of the services listed in the Manage Apps section, so you can safely go ahead and restrict access for this one as it's most likely fraudulent.

On a side note though, the Spotify Premium Family plan is intended for family members who live together and can't be used as an employee benefit, so we'd suggest switching to a Premium Individual plan and using gift cards instead.

We hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

Hii,

I think you miss understood my previous message. Someone in my family got a family plan as a salary bonus and im part of that family plan, i myself don't get it as a bonus.

I also thought that that would be the one I'd remove but i was a bit hesitant so i looked it up and apparently it's normal to have it listed under the apps section if you're part of a family plan.

Hey there @Homzy

Thanks for your reply.

In this case, we suggest that you reach out to us internally, so we can take a closer look at your account and further assist you with this.
