I have had the free version of Spotify for a few years now. Earlier in the year I used my credit card to download one song. On the 17th of this month, Spotify took £9.99 from my credit card apparently for my subscription. Firstly I did not ugrade my account, and secondly the money was taken without my permission. It looks like they have stored my card details from that single download and just helped themselves!
I have contacted them to get it sorted but have had no response. This is theft and I want my money back! Who else can I contact to get this sorted??
Solved! Go to Solution.
I filed a complaint with my credit card company and they will be getting the money back for me.
I can PM moderator to ensure you can sort this out in no time. What do you think about this? 😉
That would be brilliant if you could, thanks. Any idea how I then go back to the free Spotify as I only have the option now of paying?
You should get response soon.
If you do not need a Spotify Premium or Unlimited (I think you have Premium now?), just Cancel your subscription. However, I suggest you to delete payment details from Spotify if you do not use Get song -option often.
Cancel subscription here http://www.spotify.com/account/subscription/
Delete credit card or see status here, http://www.spotify.com/account/overview/
I cancelled the account this morning, but the account is still there. It won't let me remove my card, but I did go through the cancellation process again. Thanks again for your help.
Thanks Richard.
Any idea why my subscription has suddenly changed and I'm now being charged? I don't really use my account much nowadays but I have had no notification of the change and had no e-mail or notification that I was going to be charged.
Hey,
When cancel, you can use a Premium to it's end, after this you can use a Free service.
However, you should check that this cancelation is registered, log in to Spotify and check that you have similar to this thing: "You are registered for Spotify Premium until 2012-07-07. After this period your account will become a Spotify Free account unless you choose to renew your subscription. "
I have had the e-mail but I'm not happy with that. Why would I sign up to a free trail when I have already had Spotify for a few years?? I want my money back!
I have logged back in and it is telling me that I will be charged next month unless I cancel my recurring payment. But I will not let me cancel my recurring payment! The only reason Spotify have my details is because I downloaded ONE song! To keep my details to upgrade my account and charge me is not on!
I have replied.
I downloaded that one song back in January. Why would I sign up for a free trial of the site then in May?? I have had Spotify for a few years already. Makes no sense at all! I want my money back!
Following an unsatisfactory outcome of the e-mail i had earlier ('basically saying you signed up for it....tough') I have reported this unauthorised removal of money from my credit credit card to my Card company who will be investigating this.
I now want my card details removed from your site. Your site does not give the option of removing my card, or going back to the free version and I have twice attampted to close the account but it will not let me. What do I do now??
I appreciate you can't discuss this here. My main purpose to this was to get a response at all! Thank you for taking my card details from the site. I shall ensure I don't download anything from there again!
My free trial of the "Premium" service was to expire on June 14, 2012, I cancelled on June 13,2012 and they still charged my credit card. This is unacceptable. Is this how Spotify does business by ignoring cancellation requests from members? If I don't get a refund, I will post these comments on "ripoffreport.com" and a few other consumer protection and reporting sites. Again, I WANT MY $9.99 REFUNDED TO MY CREDIT CARD!
I filed a complaint with my credit card company and they will be getting the money back for me.
Always worth fighting unathorised charges......just had a letter from my credit card company who have refunded me the money taken without my permission.
I'm having this problem right now..it's seems that no matter how often this happens, they still aren't fixing anything. i signed up for the 30 day trial..i've barely used spotify in those 30 days and was planning on canceling it. but i got no email or notification of any kind reminding me that my trial was about to be over and all of a sudden there was money missing from my account...and i don't have the money to spare. i need my money back! you're lucky that i at least had enough in my account to keep it from over charging in which case i would have also asked for the $25 charge i get when that happens. this is really unacceptable, i've also tried canceling my account and taking my card information off but it's not letting me. FIX THIS PROBLEM! it's obvious that there are a lot people pissed off about it. and give me my money back.
