Spotify thinks my credit card is from Iceland but its not.

Solved!

Spotify thinks my credit card is from Iceland but its not.

As title suggest, Spotify just launched in my country (Israel) and i wanna get the premium.

Been trying to get it but when i put my credit card a pop-up says that its from Iceland.

Basically, my credit card is from Israel and not Iceland

Anyway to fix this?

Hey @user-removed,

That's odd.

Can you post a screenshot of that error message?

Thanks.

Hey,

How of curiosity, did a decline reach your bank? If you contact them, have them pull up their Card Management system and see if a particular error code comes up. Perhaps that could clue you into exactly what's going on with the processing IF it did attempt to charge and that error message isn't telling the whole story.

Cheers,

Bill

Nope, no declines for sure.

I bought stuff today on eBay.

It's really just spotify that ever gave me an issue.

Forgive my ignorance of Spotify's internal payment processing... I have found a few tid-bits that might help but if they don't it seems the best route is to reach out to support directly for a complex issue here: https://support.spotify.com/contact-spotify-support/

I've found a few similar themes though with some denials.
This thread: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Accounts/Spotify-Thinks-I-m-in-the-Wrong-Country/td-p/495756
Covers a few pieces of info, particularly:
"There is an easy way to tell luckily, when you log into your online overview where you can see your premium account is active, what is your username displayed as on that page?
If that username is the one you are logging in using, let me know and I will get a member of the Spotify team to dig into this a little further for you!"

And:
"Hi all, just writing an update for people who might have the same problem.
Turns out Spotify can only take payment for premium upgrades if your IP adress, credit card issue and billing country and country where you register the Spotify account match up. This came out after about 10 emails back and forth."

Are you on an Israeli IP, using an Israeli CC from anIsraeli bank? Maybe related.
Also, I have found many people struggle for some reason with payments when they link their Facebook Profile.
There are other things I can think of, including using another device to attempt to purchase, or clearing all cache and temp files from the PC or device you have available to you (but you have mentioned you've had issues with Spotify in particular in the past).
However, if you find your Username matches and country matches in your profile page, you've removed the possibility of a bug on a device stopping you from making the purchase, you're not on a VPN/Proxy, your card is all in order and matches where you live and if applicable tried remove Facebook and still can't purchase you probably need someone to fix an internal error.

The only reason I brought up the bank is that they sometimes see declines with codes that are not shared with the user directly; and may allow the card to continue to be used (I used to see this all of the time during my time in bank support if you're lucky they can be very descriptive at ther merchant-bank processing level)

Hopefully you can get this resolved and one of these work arounds may help,
Bill

Are you using an Israeli card, with an israei bank in an israeli zip without using a VPN/Proxy?

There are other things I can think of, including using another device to attempt to purchase, or clearing all cache and temp files from the PC or device you have available to you. Perhaps if you are able to a totally different device. I've seen odd client-merchant errors because of things like third party cookie filters, adblocks etc. yada yada.

However, if you find your Username matches and country matches in your profile page, you've removed the possibility of a bug on a device stopping you from making the purchase, you're not on a VPN/Proxy, your card is all in order and matches where you live and if applicable tried remove Facebook and still can't purchase you probably need someone thru support to fix an internal error.

The reason I brought up the bank and card, in my experience working in bank support is that even though you could still use the card, if a transaction attempted to go through they will see a particular rejection code with a reason between the bank and merchant. Can be very helpful if applicable.

Hopefully you can get this resolved and one of these work arounds may help,
Bill
