Switching from Regular Premium to Student

I recently started paying for premium a few months ago and found out that students could recieve a special discount. I have followed the steps posted on the FAQ page, but every time I click "Upgrade" on this site: http://spotify.com/student , it just takes me to my account settings page. I am using my school's email address on my facebook page as well as have my college listed on my Facebook account. I also tried to unlink my spotify to my facebook and setting up my own email and password, but nothing seems to work. I have no clue why it won't let me upgrade to the student discount, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Annoyingly, it doesn't appear that the Spotify payment system will allow US customers to adjust the price of an existing recurring subscription to apply the student discount. 

 

To get your discount, all you need to do is cancel your current subscription following the steps over on this help page then re-subscribe using your student discount link. No need to worry, you will still get all of the Premium days you have paid for doing this, you can cancel and resubscribe right away and you won't be billed until your next renewal date. 

 

If you are still having issues I would suggest you get in touch with the Spotify support team directly. There are several ways to get in touch!


If you have Twitter, following and dropping a Tweet to @SpotifyCares (English), @SpotifyAyuda (Spanish) or @SpotifyAjuda (Portuguese) is often the fastest way to get a reply and they can deal with the majority of issues excluding payment/billing issues.

Alternatively, you can email them (in any language) using the online contact form. There is also a special contact form if you can't remember your login details or the email address on your account is incorrect. The contact form support team should be able to handle absolutely any issue you are having!

When getting in touch via the contact forms, if you get an automated email reply back directing you to the community or help pages, you need to reply directly to that email (even if its from no-reply) and one of the support agents will get back to you as soon as possible.

I allowed my premium to run out and when trying to resign up, it still won't allow me to apply the student discount. I'll be sending something to Spotify, then! Thanks again!

If I do this, will it delete all of the songs I have saved?

Hey there @erikashrader, welcome to the community!

 

Currently it is possible to sign up for Student Discount without having to cancel so you won't lose any downloaded music 🙂 The discounted rate should then kick in on your next monthly payment date.
