why can't people follow me?

My Question or Issue

 I invited people to listen to my first public playlist and they said they cannot follow me. I indeed tried to sign on as someone else and you can see my profile but there is no button to follow. I searched your community and googled it but no answer was found. Please advise!  I'd like to start making mix tapes for the world! 🙂

Welcome to the community!

Spotify is currently exploring different social options for the free, ad-supported service on mobile. Right now, the ability to search for and follow your friends is unavailable. Hopefully, Spotify will have more information about this soon.

However, anyone who is subscribed to Spotify Premium will still be able to follow you using the mobile or desktop app. I was able to search up your profile and successfully follow you.

Note: It's currently not possible to follow other users using the web player, even with a Premium subscription.

I'd recommend taking a look at the "Follow friends and artists" support article for more information.

Sorry for any confusion!

Your Premium subscription will not have an impact on whether or not people can follow you, and there is nothing wrong in your settings.

Currently, if the person trying to follow you is using the Spotify mobile app, they must be subscribed to Spotify Premium to see the "follow" button on your profile and to be able to follow you. If they are not subscribed to Premium, then they won't be able to see the "follow" button on your profile, and they will not be able to follow you.

However, if they are using the Spotify desktop app, they should still be able to see the "follow" button on your profile, and they should be able to follow you, even if they are not subscribed to Premium.]

If they are using the web player, they won't be able to see the "follow" button on your profile, and they will not be able to follow you, even if they are subscribed to Premium, as that feature is not yet available on the web player.

Because I am subscribed to Premium, I can see the follow button on your profile when viewing it using the Spotify mobile app on my phone. Here's a screenshot:
