Hi team,
Just wanted to report a small but annoying issue I noticed with the Spotify app on Android (version 9.0.36.697).
When using the app in landscape mode, the “+” (Add to Playlist) button doesn't appear on the Now Playing screen. However, once I rotate the phone back to portrait mode, the button reappears as expected.
This happens consistently across different songs. I've attached screen video showing the difference between both orientations. Hopefully this can be looked into for a future UI update!

Thanks for your time.

Hi there @PeterKhoury01,
Thanks for reaching out. We'll gladly go over the behaviour of the notification bar for you.
At the moment, we can confirm that this is the intended way that this feature works. We appreciate the feedback and thank you for sharing this with us! In the meantime, be advised that by tapping the Media Output button, you'll still be able to find the plus without opening the app itself.
Hope this clears things up. Let us know if there's anything else we can do for you.
Hi @SpotifyCares,
Thanks again for your response.
Just to clarify: I believe the Media Output you mentioned refers to the drop-down panel that appears when Spotify is playing in the background — the one that includes the “+” (Add to Playlist) button.
However, when the device is in landscape mode, that drop-down arrow is missing, so the panel can't be expanded — and as a result, users lose access to that “+” button entirely. This functionality was available not long ago, so its removal feels like a bit of a regression for users who prefer or rely on landscape orientation.
I’ve attached a screenshot taken on 1 May 2025, clearly showing that the drop-down isn’t present in landscape.
Device: Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Android version: 14
Spotify app version: 9.0.36.697
Happy to provide a screen recording too if needed. Thanks again for looking into this — hope this feedback helps improve the app's consistency across screen orientations.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi @Peterk01,
Thanks for the patience!
We just heard back from our tech folks and they confirmed this is expected behavior. We’re regularly looking for opportunities to enhance the user experience for everyone, so your feedback on this is greatly appreciated!
The Community is here if there's anything else you need assistance with.
Hi @Dessi,
Thanks so much for following up and confirming.
I appreciate the clarification, even if it’s a bit disappointing to hear that this is expected behaviour now. From a usability standpoint, losing access to key controls like the “+” (Add to Playlist) button or the media output drop-down in landscape mode does feel like a step back — especially for users who frequently use their phones docked sideways or in-car displays.
That said, I really do appreciate you escalating this to the tech team. Hopefully it’s something that can be revisited down the track as part of future UI improvements.
Thanks again for your time and support!
Cheers,
Peter
