Hello,
I've old phone with Android 2.1 (Sony Xperia E15i). The phone is just excellent for my needs, but recently Spotify App has been updated and works with Android 2.3+. I'll not upgrade my phone, so I can't use Spotify any longer. Any chances for official support for Android 2.1?
You can ask them directly using the contact form but I'd say it is highly unlikely that they'll support such an old OS. If you get an automated response directing you back to the community or to the help pages, please reply to it by email and you will hear back from one of the team shortly.
I've got the answer. They'll work on compatibility with Android 2.1, but nobody knows when it'll happen. So the truth is: there'll be no support for 2.1. And for me it means: after latest Spoti App upgrade I can't use Spotify at all. 😕

Aging, but good enough for me as a simple phone with music player. Well, I've switched to deezer.com and I can hear the music from this old device, like I used to. 🙂
Yes, I have a little more modern phone (used by my daughter) and tablet (used as "stationery" player), but I don't want to pay for two different services (Deezer for me, Spotify for other devices). It may change when I'll have 4 mobile devices, both Deezer and Spotify support 3 devices.
I found out why you're having this issue. Your phone, the Xperia E15i a.k.a. Xperia X8, is no longer compatible with the app. And it's not because of the android version, at least not only because of it.
The Xperia E15i (X8) uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7227 processor. This processor is based on ARMv6, which is no longer supported by Spotify.
Also, since it's a compatibility issue with the processor, even if you installed the newer version by sideloading the installation file, it simply wouldn't run. There's NO workaround.
This change was introduced on the update released after the security breach.

Thank you.
So, what can I say? Goodbye Spotify... 😞
