Thanks for your feedback, everyone. As this is resolved, I'm locking this thread.
Some users were reporting issues with lockscreen controls on KitKat (4.4). If you want to weigh in on that issue, please do so in this thread.
Solved! Go to Solution.
@Morphish Thanks for the good and constructive feedback, I appreciate it.
Oh, just listen to your pompuos selves playing the poor victims while turning Spotify into the latest pantomime villain. At first it was just a few people exercising their right to have a quick moan and suggest they'd prefer to pay another supplier than put up with missing images. Fine. I support that way of thinking and don't blame anyone for cancelling a subcription for any reason they like. It's a competitive market.
However the threats and demands and condesending "suggestions" I've read from some people are getting annoying now. It's like a competition to see how high and mighty we can all be. Embarrassingly some people just sound like they've got a superiority complex. My 4 year old behaves better (sometimes!).
- I know you're paying £120 a year for this and you expected a solution would be available by now. Me included.
- I know there are other providers worth considering which will compete for your cash. So do it.
But come ON! It's just pictures! And it'll get fixed like Per says. OK it might be another month from now. But I tend to get far more our of Spotify that its album art. If you don't then you're using it wrong and probably don't need to spend all that money on it. "What about the lock-screen track skip feature?" I hear you say. Well that actually works for me even on Nexus 5 stock KitKat so perhaps that's not related to the OS (my lock screen is just a swipe btw).
So if you're the sort of person who'd demand a refund on your new Ford just because the first-aid kit was missing from that compartment in the boot/trunk, then go and cancel your subscription. However if you're the type of person (like me) who can still manage to squeeze some decent functionality out of the Spotify app then lets roll our eyes, act like grown ups and sit it out.
No malice intended here folks - just suck it up 😉
Thank you for updating us @Goodman . The music works and, for me, Spotify is all about the music 🙂
Thanks for this post! I've been waiting on it!
Just another point:
Will the volume up/down buttons have a secondairy use like forward/previous button? I really miss this.. not sure if this is a Spotify thing or KitKat thing.
So I returned my nexus 5 because of other KitKat issues(broken activesync exchange support in 4.4)...now my moto x updates to 4.4 and not only do I still have broken exchange activesync(google really sucks at feedback and bug fixing)...but yep...still no artwork in spotify for over 3 weeks.
What a joke Android is. Going back to the 5s as my daily driver. Android is for the birds.
Same Issue here, just waiting on a fix hopefully.
FYI I'm running 4.4 Kit Kat on a Google Nexus 5 too.
Sometimes I do not get music. The player says that it is playing music but it is not. I am not sure if it can help, but I though I miight as well as post it.
@AppleNuke I recommend you post in a new thread, explaining exactly what issues you are having with details of your device, android and spotify versions. Take a look at the troubleshooting tips for ideas on what would be helpful.
My Nexus 7 just upgraded to 4.4 so I'm pictureless too now but the music works.
I think the point has been missed, Its not just the artwork missing, the music controls locking up and disappearing from the lock screen and as a premium app with a paid subscription we just wanted acknowledgment of the issues and an update as to what was being done to fix them.
We all agree it's **bleep**ty to have a "core" app (well to me anyway) be buggy, not only ruins the experience you have using the app but also of having a new device (but maybe that's just me).
People have every right to voice their concerns when they are paying for a service that isn't up to scratch and if the smallest of things ruins the user experience that they initially paid for then they deserve a response so then they can make an informed decision as a consumer moving forward.
We got this and I for one am happy and will put up with it in hopes it will be resolved by next update as its been a great product and still leading in its field in my opinion.
Thank you spotify (Per) for your response to the issue.
I just got the 4.4 update on my AT&T Moto X. I'm having the same album artwork issue. Nothing shows up. Surely they know about it by now. Let's hope for a speedy fix.
I have same problem with a Nexus 4.
I updated it yesterday morning to Android 4.4 and from then I don't see any picture on the playlist/songs, on "Discovery" section, etc..
Regards,
Javier
+1 here.
Nexus4 on KitKat using ART runtime
Per, thank you for the update.
I don't like some things Spotify is doing recently (I'm still using legacy, non-web Mac desktop app which is almost perfect and I hate new one) but this kind of honest communication with customers is always appreciated.
It would be great if you could accept KitKat users to beta program to have fixed version as soon as it will be available.
BTW. Someone mentioned ART. I was thinking about switching to Rdio but their app is xamarin made and it's not working at all with ART. I was a little bit angry that this bug is taking you quite long to fix but then I realized I'm not paying for Spotify to stare at artworks;-)

- wanted to have it fixed with the next version (let's call it 0.7.4), but every release, at some point, has a code freeze. The fix didn't make it in before 0.7.4's code freeze.
- fully expect to have this fixed with the version after 0.7.4
First, thanks for your feedback - being informed certainly helps, espcially with a paid for service.
Just to satisfy my curiosity and also to allay my fears - would you be able to get a bug fix release out in a day or two if you had a showstopping bug that stopped music playing on a high proportion of devices?
I ask, because the "last" update - 0.7.3 - still hasn't made it to my device and it would seem a few others are in the same situation.
