[Android Auto] Visual glitch in built-in Spotify app ( (persistent menu icon artifact in list views)

[Android Auto] Visual glitch in built-in Spotify app ( (persistent menu icon artifact in list views)

Vehicle/System: Polestar 2, Android Automotive OS, built-in Spotify app. Not the Spotify Android phone app, and not cast or streamed from a phone.

App version: 5.3.0.29173

Polestar software version 5.0.10.

Issue description:

A small graphical artifact, part of an icon plus a circle, sits fixed at the top of any screen showing a list of songs (Albums, Playlists list, Search results).

It doesn't scroll or go away when you navigate the list. It does not show up on the individual Playlist detail view, i.e. once you're inside a playlist looking at its tracklist.

Started after a recent app update, around 2-3 months ago. Wasn't there before that. Photos attached.

Would be keen for Spotify to fix and I expected better quality control....

Hello there @jcroberts111,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for the detailed description of the issue, as well as for including photos. This really helps us investigate.

We may need to report this visual issue further, but before this, here are some troubleshooting steps to go over if you haven't already:

  • In the car's primary Settings menu, go to Apps & Notifications > see all apps and locate Spotify then force stop it. After this, go to Storage & Cache and tap Clear Cache (don't choose clear data yet). Relaunch Spotify to see if the artifact is removed.
  • Perform an infotainment reboot by pressing and holding the physical Home bar (the long white line at the bottom of your center screen) > continue holding past the 'Screen Cleaning Mode' prompt and release it only after the screen goes completely dark and the Polestar logo appears. Wait 1-2 minutes.
  • Return to the Settings > Apps > Spotify > Storage & Cache menu and this time clear the data (keep in mind that this will sign you out and erase offline downloads).
  • Reinstall the built-in app from the Google Play Store.
  • Lastly, make sure that your Polestar 2 is running the latest software version (navigate to Settings > System > Software Update).

Many thanks! Keep us posted and we're here in the meantime if anything else comes up.

Hi, no luck with the above, can you please raise this with your IT team there is a bug?

  • I have performed all these changes (force stop, clearing cache, rebooting infotainment with the above instructions, rebooting the car).
  • I have reinstalled the Spotify app from Google Play Store (Android Auto one) twice, no luck .
  • I have signed out, and cleared cache again, no luck.
  • My Polestar is running latest version Polestar software version 5.0.10. It has been happening for 3+ months.

This is NOT a particular user issue - this seems to be impacting ALL Spotify App users on Android Automotive on Polestar 2.

Because I have also asked on Facebook and several others with Polestar 2 experiencing same issues with the UI icons/black box appearing as well.

It is a poor experience and unpolished to have this not fixed for so long.

How can I get this looked into to fix?

Appreciate your quick response and having tried the suggested troubleshooting steps.

We've forwarded your details on to the relevant team to take a look and investigate, and as soon as we've got any updates on the matter, we'll let you know here.

We're just a post away if there's anything else we can assist you with.
