App will not close on android M

It keeps running in background even if I close the app. It's not in the Open Apps screen, the controller in the notification drawer is gone, yet it keeps playing without end. 

Most of the time I'd be ok with it but this is really hogging the battery and the only way to close it is to use the Force Stop button in the app manager.
