My Question or Issue
I've been using the Spotify platform for a while now and am running into a recurring issue where Audiobook tracks (usually chapters), will lose my progress and start playing from the beginning. From memory, it seems this happens when I stop listening to a track when it is nearing completion.
My assumption is there is some logic around % complete, and when discontinuing listening at ~95 or ~99% will reset the % complete, leaving you to replay the track on next listen. However, when audiobook chapters can be hours long there can be several minutes of audio left in a chapter, and this behavior is not helpful.
Hey @myth_ran_deer,
Thanks for reaching out!
Could you let us know if this happens with all audiobooks or only specific ones? Let us know a few of the affected titles and we will gladly take a look if we can reproduce this issue on our end 🙂
What we'd also like to know is the specific set of actions you perform when you're stopping the track, e.g. directly closing the app/ setting a sleep timer/ only pausing the track/ skipping to a different item to play/ etc.
And, as a starting troubleshooting step we'd suggest clearing your app's cached data as shown in this support article.
Hope this helps! We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
Hi there @myth_ran_deer,
Thanks for the reply.
We have observed in the past that the Tesla app can sometimes cause progress on audiobooks to get lost, so to narrow down the possible root cause, could you test and tell us if the same issue also occurs when playing on your phone or other devices without the Tesla app involved? If you're up to it, we'd also appreciate if you could test with another audiobook too to see if the issue is present there as well.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks for replying - I also noticed yesterday the same issue occurred while listening to Track 2 of The Churn: An Expanse Novella by James S.A. Corey.
I was using the Spotify app on my Android phone to play this track via Bluetooth to my car, I arrived at my location and paused the track, then later that day when departing, I opened the Spotify app on my Android phone again and the track progress had reset to the beginning.
Sorry I haven't experienced the issue with other Spotify client applications. I don't have a workflow that is flexible to test this behavior in my free time.
Hope this helps 👍
We really appreciate your cooperation @myth_ran_deer and all of the provided info so far.
Whenever you have the opportunity, it would be very helpful if you could test if the behavior persists when you've listened to an audiobook directly from the phone app, without having it connected to the Tesla or another app via Bluetooth. This will really help us narrow down the possible root cause.
Thanks again and in the meantime, we're here if anything else comes up.
