BUG: Spotify forgets last played song in playlist after resume several hours later

BUG: Spotify forgets last played song in playlist after resume several hours later

When playing music over Bluetooth (A2DP), it works fine.

Then I disconnect bluetooth it will be stopped  – that’s absolutely right and okay.

Now about 8 hours later, I want to resume at the song where it stopped. But spotify app totally forgot where it was…

It even doesn't remember the last played song of my playlist...

So I always have to remember which song I played and then select the song manually later on.

App Version 0.5.1.15.g81977995

Android device:

Samsung Galaxy S2

Android 4.0.3

This is of course a bug, there is no sane reason why it would remember something "for an unspecified while" rather than "forever."

I'm pretty sure this is because the OS cleans up memory and closes the app but the app SHOULD save this information in non-volatile memory (not doing so is the technical bug in this case.)

OT:

Hilarious that the spell checking functionality doesn't recognise "Spotify" !

The same on my iPhone 4 (ios 6.0.1), using Spotify most often OFFLINE.

Spotify is not anymore the current music app (when you swipe left after double-clicking the Home button). I guessed it is because Spotify is offline.

Worse, Spotify only remembers the last song played and doesn't continue playing after the song ends, the "next track" button is unavailable (grey-colored).

I cancelled my subscription and will not be using Spotify anymore because of this massive failure.

I have the same problem.  If I'm using the widget, it remembers which song was last playing (visible in the icon), but the play button doesn't work.  When I open the app, it just has a blank screen and I have to hit the X to go back to the playlist.

Using 100% Downloaded Tracks.

Edit: I submitted a help request as suggested.  Hopefully if they get enough requests they will fix this.

I asked support again.

They told me, the developers have to set priorities and other things are on higher priority than this bug.

I don't know what we could do. I think the only thing would be to get more pressure to this topic...

If everyone here would create an support issue, maybe the bug will get higher priority!

Right let's call this what it is. It's not a bug. A bug would be something that doesn't work the way it was intended. This is an omission, those nice people at Spotify have never bothered to include this most fundamental of features into any version of the mobile app in the first place!

I've been using the app first on iPhone then on Android for about 3 years. The problem is not enough people are voting with their feet for Spotify to bring this up the priority list. And that's that basically. I'd love to cancel in favour of another service but 1,none seem to come close (for now). 2,how do I know the mobile offering of one of these others will fix my gripe?

So all we can do is plead and beg those nice people at Spotify. Please introduce this basic feature. Pretty please! Just like your desktop app? PLEASE?

For me, this is the most annoying bug. Or missing feature, but this seems a so obvious one... If you like to discover new playlists and start from where you left, that's a pleasure...

The developpers must be busy tracking down the little click sound bug that occurs when they plug their headphone.

Anyway, let's be patient.

I am dropping my subscription due to this. It seems minor at first but after a few months of using the app daily it becomes frustrating. I should not feel frustrated everytime I go to listen to music. This is especially annoying when used in the car frequently. I want to dock the phone, open spotify, and hit play... or better yet autoplay on A2DP connection. Sometimes it works wonderfully, mostly when I stop somewhere for less than a few minutes. Other times it is jarring to have to navigate the app and find what I was just listening too an hour ago.

Anyway, regardless of developer priorities, the android app is lacking in general. Not too mention this should be a pretty minor issue to resolve. I will be checking out Rdio to see how it's app compares. If it can manage to remember my playlist it will already be a better alternative to Spotify.

I'm a programmer, I can tell you that is should take a competent programmer all of a day, at most, to have this fixed and tested if their codebase is sanely developed. I cancelled over this a couple months ago, but it still makes me mad every time I think about it.

They clearly just do not care, even though it is losing them subscriptions.

Yes I agree. I am a web developer and have dabble in Android. I can see there are probably technical reasons related to the cloud/online nature and making sure you are authenticated... however this even happens with offline playlists I have synced to my device. Absolutely no reason for it.

I think now, too the idea that loosing internet connection is the source of the problem, could be true.

I played some songs. Then lateron I stopped. Then no internet was available (in my garage), then I went back to spotify app and Spotify app told me "no internet connection" and the marking of the current playing song went away.

Even if that's the cause, I can state that the iOS version retains the last song played when the iDevice has lost or no internet connection. So it should easily be implemented. Seeing the pace at which the Android app is developped, I wouldn't hold my breath for the implementation of this so basic feature... A 90's CD player had such an option, come on...

I now created a "feature suggestion" for this.

I read if we get 40 kudos Spotify Staff will have a look on it!

So give kudos! 🙂

Hey guys 🙂

I am also going to escalate this as a possible bug to the community staff.

Would you guys be able to add your:

- Android version

- Spotify app version

to this topic just for some more details about this (although I would guess it is the same accross all versions!)

It seems someone already posted the same idea... and got 44 kudos... so we should sum all kudos on one idea...

I also have this bug, but on the iPhone. It's really annoying if you're part way through a playlist and really just want to continue where you left off. This, for me at least, seems to happen after stop using Spotify for a long period of time (>30mins) and always if I close Spotify.

Personally I think it would be really nice if the app itself could remember where I was up to so that I can very quickly get back to playing my offline music again.

I'd also prefer it if I didn't have to wait for Spotify to connect to the internet before letting me hit play. Winter is not far away and my fingers get cold on those commutes to work.

Thanks!

Any news for this bug? It can't be a feature or normal.

It's realy annoying and I can't find any solution. After round about a year I restarted my Sportify premium but this bug is still there.

I have no other solution than go back to another music service. It also loses the last position in a track if I restart bluetooth conenction but it knows the last track.

This bug has annoyed me for far to long. After using Google Music widget and it working flawlessly for over a year now. I cant help but just use that for music. I drive alot and do several service calls a day and everytime I'd gt back in my car and just want to resume what i was playing, the darn widget would look at me with it's blank stare. "what music?" i dont rememeber any music" I have cancelled my premium membership and cant belive after years of complaints there hasnt been a fix yet.
