Back button is nonfunctional

My Question or Issue

The back button doesn't work from the lock screen, from the notification bar, or on any bluetooth connections (i.e. car stereo buttons).  I've seen threads about this issue and I understand there is an investigation pending however, none of the suggested solutions have been effective. 

I have tried clearing my data, clearing cache, force stop, and uninstalling and reinstalling the app.  Nothing has reinstated the back button's functionality. The back button is entirely nonfunctional unless the app is open and focused on the individual song screen. Please let me know and please let the larger spotify user base know what can be done to resolve this frustrating issue. 

An unexpected and unfortunate result of reinstalling the app is that the latest version of spotify was downloaded and I am disappointed in both the design and the updated features.
