I recently started using Spotify (finally), and usually casting to chromecast on my TV, either via Samsung tablet or PC. Question is, is it supposed to just be a black screen with the Spotify logo when casting? I also have to use the chromecast do stop casting manually when I'm done, is that normal too?

I suggest you to check the versions of all your devices involved (Chromecast, Android device) and the Spotify app. Please check this links to setup and problemshooting:

Sadly, there was no change. I reinstalled the app on the tablet, reset the chromecast back to factory settings. Neither did help. What's weird though, is that it wasn't like this when I still used the free version of Spotify. The CD art and all that was on the screen, then. But after I upgraded to Premium the screen is still black.
Same problem here.
Spotify displays a black screen with its logo, while music is playing on the background, when casting from CM 13.
It casts correctly displaying the song's art page when casting from stock TouchWiz 5.0.2
It might have something to do with recent CM bug fix for Chromecast that messes up with Spotify.
On Chromecast gen 2.
EDIT: After some phone reboots, it no longer occurs.
I've got the first gen Chromecast but I don't think that should matter as my issue only started after I upgraded to Premium, which doesn't mak sense in any way.
The same issue here. I can see only a black screen with the logo. Nexus 5x, Chromecast2, latest software/apps.
