Just wondering something, albeit VERY unlikely...
Could people affected download this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evozi.deviceid
Is there a value under Android ID?
Thanks for that. The tech staff are working on this so hopefully we'll have a fix soon 🙂
I had to completely uninstall Spotify on my HTC One and then re-install to get it to work. However affer then re-transferring all local tracks, it again got stuck on the white screen the next day. Since then I gave up on trying to use local/downloaded tracks until they fix this, and since then it at least has not gotten stuck on the white screen again.
HOWEVER, I have noticed there is a completely unrelated annoying bug in this app version: it keeps forgetting that I have it set in shuffle mode when it resumes the app. Each time I start up the app to resume my playlist I have to keep re-checking the shuffle icon at bottom left of landscape mode.
Hi guys,
I've reverted to version 0.6.0.20 (just before the introduction of landscape mode but still with playlist filtering and sorting), and the problem is gone.
For reference, I have Cyanogen mod 10.1 (RC4 but problem also occured with RC1), on a samsung Galaxy S (I9000) and a 32GB external SD (22 of which are free, 4GB free on the internal storage) where spotify stores its stuff. I confirm that nothing suggested here works
- wiping the SD card
- removing the SD to store the data on internal memory
- upgrading from a previous version
- uninstalling & wiping spotify and its system dir and installing it fresh.
Also I use a spotify login and not a facebook account to log in (nor do I have the facebook app installed).
due to the wide variety of android flavor/hardware/configuration in this thread, I think we can assume it is a spotify only problem.
The main difference between the 5€ and the 10€ subscription is the ability for mobile music playback.
Due to this bug this paid service could not be provided to the affected users for some weeks. In my opinion Spotify should be fair and grant those people a discount for this time.
This isn't a cosmetic bug, this is an underperformance which should have been fixed hours after the bug occurred.
Personally I don't want any discounts for myself because I could continue using the service with the previous Android version. But there are some users out there who don't know about this workaround and they didn't have a chance to use the additional Premium features.

Yes. Do you need what the value is?

The bug showed up for me a day before my next billing so I just canceled premium service so I would not be billed for a service I cannot use.
Ironically, I opened a trial of Google's new Play Music service (U.S. residents only) a week or so earlier which appears to have essentially the same music library, costs me nothing the first month, and two dollars less than Spotify Premium every month after that.
At this point, Spotify has about a week to get their act together or I'll just take my business to Google. I have been a premium Spotify customer for over a year, but a non-working app is a deal breaker (and saving $24 a year with Google isn't bad either).
That is what a competitive marketplace brings. Choices.
By way of an update:
All was working as it should for the last 24 hours. Then I downloaded songs to the phone and now I'm back to white screen. I am going to delete everything and not download any songs and see.
Ok, here is what I was able to do:
If I download songs from the app on my phone, everything is wonderful.
If I sync, then it goes back to white screen.
I have a Motorola Razr M.
It is not rooted.
My OS is Android 4.1.2
I am using Spotify version 0.6.2.64
Spotify is installed in the main storage partition, where 1.48GB is free after installation.
I have a 32GB SD card. I have tested the card to show that it actually reads and writes 32GB without errors.
Spotify is the sole consumer of space on this card.
Spotify consumes 19MB of memory when running
258MB phone memory free when Spotify is running.
After downloading version 0.6.2.64:
Spotify prompted for login.
opened to a blank screen.
SD card contained 24GB of downloaded Spotify files.
Uninstalled and deleted all files
Fresh reinstall of Spotify
Began the download of 24GB of "Extreme" Spotify files.
At some point play stops.
On restarting the app, Spotify prompts for a login
opens to a blank screen
Repeated 4 times with exactly the same result
Uninstalled and deleted all files
Fresh reinstall of Spotify
Spotify prompts for login
Downloaded 3GB of "Extreme" files
Spotify runs without difficulty in both, online and offline modes
Downloaded 6GB more of "Extreme" files,
for a total of about 9GB
Spotify freezes during play => reboot.
prompts for login
opens to blank screen.
Cleared data
Spotify prompts for login
opens, plays, closes, reopens normally with downloads of:
3GB,
4GB,
5GB
I have rebooted the phone between these increments. Somewhere between 5 and 9 GB I expect the problem to return.
I hope that this is useful to you, and that a correction will be available very soon.
Best wishes,
Mark

I downloaded around 13GB in increments as above and it played normally. After letting the phone alone for a while, Spotify not playing, I opened the app to a white screen.
I'll test to see if size + letting the phone rest gives the same result. Clearing data, logging in, downloading again.
=========
There is some other factor involved, besides download size. I've downloaded 15GB and everything is fine, so far.
=========
Everything went fine for several days with dozens of GB downloaded, and then today the blank screen returned. I'm thinking now that it has more to do with synchronizing changes to the play lists, or perhaps temporary SD access issues: these issues, that in previous versions caused Spotify to delete all my music now seems to have resulted in the blank screen problem, forcing me to delete the music myself.
=========
I haven't had a blank screen for almost a week now. I don't know why unless it's this:
* When the playlists are slow to load or fail to load, but you can see the sort drop-down in the top right corner:
** Do not use the back arrow or close the App.
** Point at the sort drop-down. Choose one of the options, for example Sort A-Z.
*** The playlists will load. I've done this at least 6 times.
Of course, it could be coincidence. When nothing works except smearing it with chicken blood, I go with the chicken blood.
I've uninstalled/deleted cache several times now. It does seem to be related to the downloading of songs. Any idea when this issue is going to be fixed? Is it crazy to think that android may not be playing nice to drive traffic to Google's new music service? 😛
I have a Droid X and have been using Spotify successfully for several months now. With this latest update, I got a white screen this morning and could not get anything to appear. I had to delete and reinstall Spotify, so of course, all my downloaded albums had to be re-downloaded. Painful.
Downloaded Spotify ver. 0.6.2.64 on last Sunday (first time user actually) on my Huawei Ascend P1 (mod U9200) with Android 4.0.3 and signed up as Premium user.
Very disappointed when I experieced "the blank screen-phenomenon", did not expect this. This has happened several times this week, and I `ve tried different solutions as described, problem not solved.
My sd-card has 14,83 GB free space, and interal storage 1,13 GB.
This problem has to be solved as soon as possible, or I will never use this product again.
Description
When I logged into Spotify for the first time, I entered my log in details and the application immediately displayed a completley blank white screen and refuses to respond to anything.

That would be pointless, it's just a white screen with nothing on it.
...
If this remains unresolved by the time my renewal of premium account comes up, I will be cancelling and finding some alternative source of music.
I have a Samsung Epic 4G Touch (Galaxy SII) with Sprint. Android version 2.3.6.
I updated Spotify to the newest version on Wednesday. Previously I was using a version that didn't have the list filter feature (which I've been waiting for FOREVER). The new version worked for about 24 hours. Then the white screen hit (no error message though), and nothing I did could get past it. I didn't try clearing out my SD card because I figured I'd try installing an old version first.
So I installed 0.6.0.20 over it just now (Sunday). It's working so far, but so did the other one at first. Didn't have to redownload all my songs, so that's good, and 0.6.0.20 has the list filtering, so if it keeps working I'll be happy.
Wow. First time Spotify user here. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 (AT&T) and went to the Play Store and installed Spotify today.
I created an email account. Started playing a radio station. All was fine.
Then after a reboot, all I get is a white screen that pops up on reboot and every time I open the app.
Oh, and there is no freakin "exit" button available from the settings button my phone.
So really, this thead is 16 pages long and dates back to 2012 and the issue still hasn't been resolved?
Your Graphical User Interface also stinks to high hell. Just throw away this app and start over from scratch.
I for one will not be buying the premium subscription that was recommended to me.
And I'm a guy (your freaking software actually asked me), so why did I get an avatar of a woman with hairy arms.
Interesting.
I cleared the app cache/data.
Then powered off phone.
Removed my Sandisk fat32 formatted 64GB Class 10 MicroSD card.
Rebooted phone and no longer get the white screen issue.
Now fixit please!
Btw. 4.2.2 AOSP based custom ROM
