Bluetooth headphone controls

I just bought a new pair of bluetooth heaphones with control buttons to skip tracks, play/pause, and they pair to my Android phone, but the controls don't work on Spotify.  The manual says my bluetooth transmitter needs to support AVRCP, and I'm trying to find out if it does, but it seems there should also be a software workaround for this.  Any suggestions?

We don't officially support Bluetooth devices, but try restarting your device and reinstalling the app.
