Can't select songs

Can't select songs

I am a Premium member using an Android phone. I used to be able to select any song from any artist or playlist. That is now no longer an option. Literally one day it was working and the next it was not. I have logged out and back in, made sure the app was updated, and restarted my phone. I can only shuffle play. How can I fix this issue? The only reason I pay for Spotify is to have the ability to chose what I listen to.

Hey there @KC1013

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

Could it be possible that your Subscription has ended, check out your current subscription status through your Account overview page here. If still on Premium then this would be a very interesting bug, can you still access premium features on other devices? If not could you send us a screenshot or video of how things are looking over at your end, as well as your devices OS version and Spotify version.

Keep us posted.

Hi @PinkyRose,

Thanks for the reply. If you haven't already, please perform a full clean reinstall as shown here. This will clear any damaged cache or data that may be causing this.

Hope this helps.

Help me

I have been having the exact same issue, it will let me select a few songs but in general I cant select most of my music library. And I'd really prefer not to have to delete the 20gbs of downloaded music on my phone to solve the issue. This app has progressively gotten worse in terms of function for the past 10 years, its insane I pay 12 bucks a month to only be able to shuffle.

Hey there @krazyboi95,

Thanks for your reply here.

Since you mentioned you can't select your songs to play even though you're on Premium tier, then we'd suggest you perform a clean reinstall of the app. We understand this is not ideal given the fact that you've downloaded a large amount of content to listen to offline. Keep in mind though, that by doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure some of the stored cache is not leading to this behavior. You can follow these steps to do it.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The make/model and OS of the affected device.
  • The exact Spotify version you're running there.
  • Does this happen if you open a different account on your mobile device? You can ask for the account of a relative or a friend to open it on your device and check.

Keep us in the loop!

Same issue here had it a number of times in the past

Seems to resolve itself eventually but it is a pain in the ass for a few days usually.

Please fix.

I can't select songs to play, that's the purpose of premium. I press on the song and nothing happens??

Same thing is happening on my iOS, nothing wrong with my subscription, I tap on the song and another one comes up. What should I do to fix it?

Hey there, folks,

Make sure you've allowed the app to access your network. You can do this in your device's settings. It's also worth checking if switching to a different Wi-Fi network or using mobile data makes a difference.

@bellatommasella, is it possible that you've accidentally logged in to a free account? I'd recommend logging out and signing back in to your Premium account instead. This article will help you locate it, if necessary.

Something else you can do is check for any leftover songs in the queue from a previous listening session. You can remove them with the Clear queue button. If you haven't already, try disabling Shuffle as well to see if that does the trick.

Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes ๐Ÿ‘

I need help I can't choose songs now on Spotify but I was able to before but now I can't and I am not a premium member on Spotify and I have a android version 14 what should I do

Hey @Ilovecandy1,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.

Unfortunately, this is expected behavior if you have a free account on mobile. Keep in mind that "playing songs in any order" is a premium feature as mentioned in this article. In this case, we'd recommend using the Desktop app or Web Player on a computer (if possible) as it has less restrictions than the mobile app.

Hope this clarifies things a bit. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.
