My Question or Issue

I cant sign in to spotify on my device. It runs android 4.2.2 i was previously signed in until i accidentally deleted the app and now i cant sign back in. It tells me that there is no internet connection. I tried to sign in with facebook but it also tells me the same thing. The spotify version i am using is from 2021 version number is 8.6.52.911. I should be able to sign in since the app version in not older than 2017. Is there anything i can do? Can i trick the app?

Hey @ร–mer45,

Thanks for coming to the Community.

If you're having trouble using Spotify on a device, you'll also need to make sure that particular device meets the current minimum system requirements.

Unfortunately, if your device doesn't meet the minimum requirements, it won't be possible to use Spotify and access Spotify content through the Spotify app or troubleshoot it properly.

You can check out Spotify's current minimum system requirements here.

Hope this clears things up! ๐Ÿ™‚

backroom Spotify do better. I can't login using version i have used since day 1.  Logout  and SURPRISE ! This is at YOUR END to allow a device to login or not.

Why do you do this? You are not in the business of selling hardware unless you are getting revenue from apple to kick off devices. If not then WHY? What benefit to you get from not allowing a device to connect?

Do the right thing. Let us decide when to replace  hardware.

Hey thanks for the cut  and paste response ! Lets clears things UP !! ๐Ÿ˜€  THIS is solely an issue with Spotify not allowing the login that occurred on the same device for the last 7 years without ANY issue. This is what the APP STORE does, it saves the LAST WORKING release for my OS. I have deleted and re-down loaded the app dozens of times. WITHOUT ISSUE. My login name  and password are being blocked AT YOUR END. I have the minimum requirement for the OS I have. AND I have the release that matches that OS. Period. Hope that clears things up ๐Ÿ˜€ !

Omer, these "spotify stars" are just cut and paste time wasters. Spotify will just block access for no reason. i suspect they report the blocks to the hardware makers for a fee. If they can help sell a new phone why not get paid for it? It is outrageous for Spotify to block access to the the program when the OS  and release number were good to work together. If all the new bells and whistles are missing who cares. Happy customers? Why bother with them.

8 years with the same OS and release version *saved in the my app purchase folder* and spotify backroom has decided to block my access for NO REASON.

Have deleted and uploaded dozens of times without issue. Even a month before this happened. No problems.

Someone just has to remove that block and I would be happy. LET ME decide when to upgrade my hardware to get the latest app release version. It  still played music  and talk, why make a customer unhappy with a BS move.

AND PLEASE, unless you have something constructive to add don't bother with the " please check what the min requirements are . have a nice day !"

(iOS 10, Android Oreo, Windows 10,etc.)

My Question or Issue

๐Ÿ˜€you know you are just telling a spotify customer to go and buy a new phone- right? You really need to add the ๐Ÿ˜ to make him feel better?  Ridiculous. If the program can still play music THAT is the only thing that matters. LET the customer decide if a new feature , better feature is worth exploring. For the suggestion box.

If you won't allow a legacy version of the OS and release version , that still worked , or did until Spotify blocks your logon, then at least be upfront and have a countdown timer to show how many days you have left before you get the block. That would be good service. I mean keeping a customer happy? Very out dated concept. On one device I get a warning , old version cannot be updated. Fine. Thanks for the warning. Audio still plays. If you were in the business of selling hardware - ok. Incentive to play the game.

Here? No logical reason. Make the music come out MONO if you want to tick people off.

My Honda HRV 20217 car is not offering updates for the operating system. ๐Ÿ˜ž

I realize you're trying to be droll but it actually makes no sense. Find another product.

I experienced this also as super annoying. I don't want to buy a new car radio every two years. I guess i need Apple ore something else

My Question or Issue

Hello everyone,

I would like to share an important piece of information with you that may affect many users of older Android devices. Due to API changes implemented by Spotify in November, users on devices with Android versions below 7.0 may not be able to log in when they log out.

If you are using an older version of the Spotify app on your device and that device cannot be updated to Android 7.0 or later, I strongly recommend that you

DO NOT log out of your Spotify account or you may not be able to log back in on that device on Android version 7.0.

I have tested this on several devices with Android 4.2 and 4.4, and although the app continues to work properly until you log out, it is no longer possible to log in afterwards - regardless of whether the correct access data is used.

Error message:
The following error message may appear when you try to log in again:
"The combination of email address and password does not match your Spotify account. Please try again. โ€œ

Spotify appears to have technically restricted access for older versions due to these API changes. However, users who remain logged in can use the app without any problems, including the library, playlists and downloads.

If you are affected, please also report this to Spotify support or in the community so that the issue remains known and hopefully resolved.

You can find more information about supported devices and versions here:
https://support.spotify.com/de/article/supported-devices-for-spotify/

So be careful and don't log out if you want to continue using Spotify on older devices!

That sucks. I was trying to convert my old phone running Android 4.2 to a portable music player. What's funny, I can still download YouTube Music from the play store.

Absolute Frechheit!!!!

**bleep** you Spotify. Some people use older devices just as a music player for Spotify only. Now you're helping polute the planet even more by making those old PERFECTLY CAPABLE devices useless and destined for the land fill. Again. **bleep** YOU SPOTIFY.

I have a tablet with Android 4.2.2..

The lite version is not supported.

Can you send me the app for my tablet?

having same issues with machines running OS X El Capitan and windows 7-8.1 and 3 devices(2 phones one ipod), all 3 running windows mobile 10(build 1709), Android 4.4.1 and iOS 9.3.5(iPod OS 9.3.5) both machines logged in perfectly fine if I logged in via browser first then signed in on app or if signed in via Facebook however windows mobile 10(1709) and iOS 9.3.5 devices struggle let alone not log in at all. while my Android 4 device logs in perfectly fine if i log in via browser first. my windows mobile 10 device throws an error saying that my account has to have premium(I had a duo account at the time with Me and my partner on it) and my iOS 9 ipod throws an error complaining about not having Internet connection and it isn't like I can log in like I did on android since windows mobile version never supported logging in via Web(as far as I have tried) and my ipods safari version is too slow and has invalid certificates which means I cannot log in whatsoever. even if I tried to use Facebook login. granted my Spotify version is a archived IPA from Internet archive but it should atleast have an actual attempt at logging in not just instantly throw an error. exactly what you said in what I have read. perfectly working devices are being killed off since brands are most likely giving Spotify a fee to kill off old devices that perfectly work well on there last versions. same goes for other apps like sound cloud and deezer. both neither work as of summer 2024. I was using soundcloud one day on the ipod I mentioned. the app crashes and fails to even load. few months go by and I see that it got killed on iOS 9 devices. we shouldn't have to be forced to upgrade working devices because it's the saying "if it still works don't fix it" Spotify worked perfectly for a while when I used it in 2020 on windows mobile 10 then got killed in around 2023. atleast a work around of signing in on older devices whether that's using Web first then signing in or something different but at the end of the day we should be allowed to use older devices on older versions of there apps if they still work perfectly fine on the last saved versions for the OS versions. even if they are old. no one wants to sit at a desk for ages syncing iTunes songs and filling up our storage just for a few thousand let alone hundreds of songs if you factor in apps and pre loaded things rather than streaming music and downloading the ones you want for offline listening(late comment but it's bugging me to try and log in since in tired of syncing iTunes songs, I live in a dangerous area in London with high crime rate and I don't want to be bringing out a ยฃ1300 phone when I could just bring a ยฃ20-ยฃ35 ipod with Spotify downloaded songs)
