I just got the chromcast 2 yesterday (not the audio) and I also have noticed this issue. (have bigger issues with spotify connect and chromecast right now, but noticed this while searching for my other issues)
edit: The chromecast did a full update when I first installed it as well.
After a week of trials with help form Sptofiy Support it still doesn't work. over a minute to connect and very frequent hickups in audio with both my Chromecast. Canceled my Premium subcription, signed up with Google Music: Connection within one second and not a single hickup. Happy now!
I am so sick of this issue. It is killing Spotify for me.
I've started my Google Play Free Trial, 4 months free trial on Cyber Monday and like others here, have zero issues. What a relief.
Given that the services are in many ways identical, my next step is a no brainer. Sorry Spotify I prefer your UI and love the fact you are independent, but that is not enough when using your service at home is a song to song proposition. Given this is an old issue which you have had ample opportunity to resolve, your paying customers deserve better.
Gave up in the end using an old laptop plugged into the amp running spotify desktop app works exactly as it should.
I would prefer to use the chromecast which is why I paid for it, but it just has too many issues. I have tried the google music service which came free with my CC too, it works better but cant control on different devices after starting on one.
Also the google service / playlists /discovery is just not as good as spotify.
However, at some stage google music will be just as good, then for me, the distinction will be on which service devices run better.
I guess that the original problem as I've experienced it before, was fixed.
I didn't make an intensive test yet, but from the few times I've tried last days, it didn't get stucked in pause as before.
Internet connection continue being not so strong as it seems to be with other services, so a few times the songs fell in pause, but every time they recovered and continued automatically after the connection was restored. The funny thing is that the play sign appeared while the connection was lost (play sign means that the song is in pause), but it changed automatically to the pause sign and the song continued automatically, without need to touch the play sign as before.
May be it need some fixes yet to improve the connection handling, but at least the problem is not as annoying as it was before, when songs got stuck in pause and was impossible to make them continue.
Have to say, the service has been a little better this past week and it's only dropped out when switching between songs. . I'm not getting my hopes up just yet but there does seem to have been some improvement. We'll see.
I'm on the last drops of patience with my Spotify subscription, everyday's a fight getting the Spotify app to connect and stay connected to my 'group' of two Chrome Cast audio's. (Read: Listen to music with Spotify).
It can usually connect to the group the first time i try, but after maybe fifteen minuttes the app drops the connection to the Spotify servers/the stream, music keeps playing but i can't adjust the volumen or control the tunes anymore. Google Home app's notification pulldown are still connected and i can pause or mute the Spotify stream with it, but the Spotify app are disconnected. I will have to close it and restart it for it to connect to the 'stream' again.
And after that i'll have al kinds of "Song not Available", can find CC, disconnections etc..
Everything else work fine with the Chrome Casts, I just can believe your not getting this **bleep** fixed, it's been like this since you started 'supporting' Chrome Cast.
Hi all.
I discover this and I'm quite happy with this beaucouse I thought I was the only one with this issue.
I bought a Chromecast Audio specifically for this use and I'm quite disappointed with this up to now.
I tried with a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, Samsung Galaxy A3 2016 and iPad 2, without any difference.
I have to say that I tried with Google Play Music and I have no issue of this kind.
Thanks for your support.

This describes the problem really well. From what I've gathered about Spotify, you won't get a real response on this forum. The only way to get a response to your problem is by contacting them directly and enduring the "do you have the latest firmware installed" routine.
And since nothing is going to change they're gonna have a ton of unresolved support tickets instead of a bunch of angry people on this "Community"
Me Too
So much for that.
After the last couple of updates i now have to 'force close' the spoptify android every time i want connect it to my Chrome cast's or it can't even se them at all.
Why the F**K aren't the idiots fixing this **bleep**.
I'm having a similar/same issue.
Start Spotify
Cast to Chromecast
Song completes
Spotify app stops updating while playlist continues on Chromecast audio
Press play or next on Spotify app and audio starts playing from phone speaker
Chromecast audio never ceases playing during this
Only way to stop audio is by stopping from Google Home app
Also sometimes I get the lady blasting through my Chromecast Audio that my Spotify account is being used somewhere else. Seems like a Spotify issue since Pandora and other services work fine.
I found these steps and have done them all to no avail:
- Restarting your device, and then reinstall the app
- Check for firmware updates on your Chromecast
- Restart your network router.
- Make sure that your Chromecast is connected to the same WiFi network
- Ensure you're not using a VPN
So now that this breaks every time, can I get a service credit from Spotify since I can't use my premium subsription?
@Music Fan
I have this as one of 5-6 issues with the app and desktop client loosing connestion to CC audio.
I find the easiest way are to 'Force Close' the Android app under "apps, setting". Then it will reconnect to the spotify servers.
