Is there anyway to make Spotify the default player on an Android system? This is of most concern when I'm using the system in conjunction with a bluetooth interface in my car.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Incredible something this basic hasn't been solved even after 3 years.
I guess it is most likely android issue.
Simillar that you can set, easily, default music player for voice control commands.
I don't think this is an Android issue, just Spotify being lazy. Google Play Music and VLC media player can do this right every time.
If I completely stop Spotify (which also happens automatically overnight, even when Spotify is excluded from battery optimization) or reboot my phone, the play button on my remote will never start Spotify. However, it will start VLC or Play Music, whichever was the last player used of these two. And while actually Spotify was the last player used.
I even see the Spotify icon briefly in the notification bar, but then it disappears and opens the other player. I reported this to Spotify a month ago, and they said they are working on it. However, with 4 beta versions and one or two releases in between they still haven't managed to fix this issue. Seeing the timeline of this thread, maybe it will never be fixed.

PowerAmp works just fine, it's Spotify that's having all those issues.
It seems the problem is that Spotify does not identify itself as a music player. So android doesn't know to use it, unless it is running in foreground.
I am sure they could have fixed it by now, but I guess they just don't care.
Anyway, I am fed up with this sh*t and checking out Napster right now. If it works good and has the music I care about, then it's bye bye Spotify.
tks!
I have a 2013 Hyundai Veloster that I connect via Bluetooth to my Samsung Android phone. I have the paid version of Spotify which I use exclusively as my music player and also have the issue with it not starting automatically. Very irritating to start driving only to find once the phone connects that it will not play anything. Fat guy in a little car trying to dig his phone out of his pocket while attempting to drive is not a good combination. I have found however, that pushing pause and then play on the touchscreen of the car will sometimes kick start it and get it to play. Not 100% of the time, but will work sometimes for some odd reason. Hope this helps.
I have the same problem, not with my car ( i am 16 and cant dive jet) but with my earbuds. If i go to app-settings i can choose between google music or my normal music player. If i click the button on my pods, it starts the normal music player. Also, when i hold the home buton to close off apps, the music app will keep playing on, but Spotify closes. Plz someone do something about it.
