Double notifications with Spotify and Stations both installed

I thought I'd try out the new stations app, but I'm getting notifications from both the main app and the stations app when I play anything.  The two apps seem to see each other as distinct devices under the spotify connect menu in the same way as when I see notifications on my phone when I play on the desktop web app.

I'm on a Pixel 2 running the may patch of LOS 16 aka Pie

I experienced the same thing, and it’s even worse that that...when the second app pops up, the music stops! I have to hit Play for the station to continue. Bug report?
