Editing playlist order on spotify mobile (Android)

Solved!

Editing playlist order on spotify mobile (Android)

Why doesn't spotify support manually changing the order of playlists on the mobile version?

Is there some kind of technical hurdle to work around or are Spotify just not listening to the people that are asking for it?

You can't 😞

As I said in earlier post I'm testing out Google Play Music on a free 90 day trial that came with my new Chromebook and I have to say - I think it's better.  As well as the problem being discussed being better, the way of uploading your own tracks into the cloud so you can add them to your playlists is so much simpler and more efficient than the Spotify method. Always dismissed GPM as being poor before but it seems to have come a very long way since I last looked.

The recommendations aren't quite as good - no discover weekly, obvs - and although the catalogue is smaller there's hardly anything not there that are on my Spotify lists.  Also it's harder to share lists and you can't embed a playlist which I do with Spotify on my blog.

I've been premium with Spotify for 5 years and I still love it but unless they raise their Android/web player game I think I'll be having to wave goodbye...  A shame that the solution to this problem for me seems to be switching service.  Hope someone from Spotify actually reads this!

To refresh this idea, I created another updated one. I put the emphasis on that in iOS the feature has been implemented a long time ago, and that we should have the same features in Android.

Want to hear a good one ? iOS version allows you to organize the playlist ! Through a little button from the list view menu called MODIFY. (Haven't noticed the last post, my bad)
Even an iPhone 4 can do this, I don't believe implementing such button in Android interface is that hard, the ordering action is already there if you go to Queue view, but not for playlists , c'mon Spotify!

Hi Folks, found a workaround for this annoying problem.  It works, but it is totally rediculous that this function is not already in the app:

1. On your desktop Spotify, order your playlists how you want them to be in the Android app.

2. UNINSTALL Spotify on the mobile device.

3. Restart mobile device (this step may not be essential,I did it and it worked)

4. Reinstall Sotify on mobile device.

Bam, your playlists come in with same ordering as on the desktop application.

I for one do not want to do this everytime I want to reorder my playlists, but at least there is a way.

Short of this dramatic process, you do have the option in Android app to sort playlists according to most recently played, so that may be acceptable option for many.

Another option is to RENAME your playlists with leading numbers being the order you want them.  Then select FILTER / SORT / NAME

Further to my previous post, I have been playing around with my third option (RENAME playlists with leading numbers reflecting the ORDER you want them to appear in your playlist, the go to FILTER / SORT / NAME

This works really well and I think will be the way I go forward.  NOTE, you can use playlist numbering cleverly to get some helpful results:

1.  Use TWO digit numbering (01, 02 ... 35  etc), you will almost certianly want more then 10 playlists.

2. You can use the same two digit prefix multiple times, and then all of these will be grouped in that position in your playlist listing, and they will be sorted alphetebetically within that section.

3.  Want to move one of your playlists to a different position, change the number prefix and resort.  Done.

I am sorry, but what are you talking about? We know that we can sort the
playlists with the desktop application, and that this will be reflected on
the mobile after the synchronization... What we want is the capability of
rearranging the playlist inside the Android app, same way you can do it
with an iPhone.

"On your desktop Spotify"

You don't understand the problem.  We want to modify the playlists on our android devices (like iOs devices can) without the use of a seperate PC.

Exactly - I get what you're saying but for those of us without regular access to the desktop app it's not a workaround at all.

The issue is - what do you do to edit playlists if you can only use the web player and android app because you either don't have a PC/Mac OS or only want to use it on your phone or tablet? The above solution does not apply.

(As a side note, when I was borrowing a windows pc I noticed the desktop app really slowed the PC down - seems to be total bloat ware, another reason why working the system on the phone would be better)

This isn't a special feature, it's as basic functionality as adding and removing tracks. I'm going to keep flagging this up until we get an answer on this.

I have just upgraded to the family premium account as my daughter uses IOS and I am android. I'm quite frankly flabbergasted that the edit playlist function is not available to Android users. This is such a basic request. Please sort this out asap Spotify

Our situation is just the same. Frankly, seeing how many *years* this has
been an issue, I think Apple must be paying off Spotify to keep it that
way.

I need this feature also. When I add new songs into my playlist I can't edit the order, I don't want to shuffle also. It's annoying having to manually choose the songs I want to listen in the playlist every time a song ended.

Its incredibly frustrating to be unable to re-arrange the order of your playlist on your phone. It makes me feel like its not really worth keeping my subscription without this fundamentally basic feature. Pick up your game, Spotify!

Spotify:
You need to correct this issue with a sense of urgency. This has been a problem that has been addressed by multiple members of the Spotify community. People are telling you, they will look elsewhere for music. Being that the competition is stiff, I would fix the issue most ricky-tick, before you lose business.
1stSgt.

WTH?   Why is this BASIC request still unresolved???

Hey, guess why I'm here?  Yup, used spotify for a while now and wasn't really into making ordered playlists, shuffle was good enough.  Now I need a playlist, spent loads of time and realized if I need to insert a new track in it the only place it will go is the very end.  Premium my **bleep**, time to see if google deserves my money instead, I already know OK Google voice command would rather I use that lol.

If you still have the Iphone you could change the order on that, that should cange it on the android. Only if you own the playlist

ITS FIXED!
Choose a playlist, drag up (past the playliste avatar) on the right there is two lines above little triangle, press and you can change how to sort the playlist!

Isn't that just how to sort the playlist? I've just had a quick look, unless I'm missing something it still doesn't answer the question of how to insert a new track in between  (for example) song 23 and 24 of an existing playlist of 40.

Anyway, just seen attached message regarding this thread so probably never going to be fixed

So...Spotify is never going to fix this then? It's just a 'good idea' like it's some kind of quirky bonus rather than a fundamental part of functionality? That's shocking. What a way to treat customers just for using the enormously popular Android..

Very disappointing response from Spotify.  Looks like I (along with my family account) will be moving over to Google Play Music.
