My Question or Issue
In the last week or so, the explicit content filter has stopped working. The setting is off to block explicit content in the settings on my phone. When I play a Spotify playlist, it still plays all the explicit content songs that are marked with the E symbol. If I open the playlist and press on one of the songs with E symbol, the app will warn me that it is explicit and direct me to change the settings. But if I just leave the playlist playing and the next song is explicit, it will continue to play it anyway. So it obviously knows what is explicit and what isn't, and knows that my setting is not to play explicit content. I have young children in the house and Spotify is playing some really explicit lyrics to them. This is unacceptable.
The filter used to be terrible. Then it seemed to work quite well for a few months. And now it is terrible again.
Wow what a terrible system, how can people vote on it if it’s closed? Apple Music here we come...!
Hey folks,
Thanks for reaching out about this.
Keep in mind that even if this idea is set to Closed, you can still vote for it. With time and new votes, we’ll be reviewing it and revising conversations with the right teams.
If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to let us know.
Cheers.
Wow this is honestly the worst possible way to deal with a feature that is not working...
Spotify Support: 'Guys vote to have the bug fixed and we can maybe talk to the teams that might look at the bug that has existed for almost a year!"
To put this plainly: WE ARE ASKING FOR A BUG FIX NOT A NEW FEATURE!
Sorry for the caps lock but that point seems to have been lost on support here...
neither of them work, what should I do?
Hi there @user-removed,
Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community.
Can you let us know what exactly is not working, we'll do our best to help?
Cheers.
I dunno could they be talking about the explicit filters not working properly as detailed repeatedly in this thread for years now and never fixed?
As I said in MARCH of 2021 we are looking for a bug fix not a new feature... Read the thread. Get the devs to actually fix the bug.
Hey @Michaelvroom,
If you're able to consistently reproduce this behavior, a short video which showcases it in action would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to let us know what playback devices you're using as well.
We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
I'm having a slightly different issue, but still related to explicit content. We found out, after hearing about the issue from someone else, that, even in accounts where explicit content is disabled, if you search "Music Videos," it shows completely inappropriate content. In a regular account, it shows pornographic content. How is this even possible? Such a simple and innocent search, and you get full nudity on the first page you see? How is this not completely removed?
Hi @Cookito,
Thanks for your report. Rest assured our tech folks are aware of this and are currently working on a final solution.
Some changes were recently made backstage, could you check if everything looks good on your end now? Remember to always keep the app up to date to ensure you're running the latest version of Spotify.
Take care.
I have searched high and low on all devices (ipad, phone, desktop, registration through sonos app), and the explicit filter option is NON EXISTENT. I just cancelled my DUO subscription for this reason, as crude explicit lyrics would blast out in our personal training studio, not making for happy clients.
It used to be right when you clicked on settings, but it is no longer there. Can someone please advise if there is a trick to finding the toggle switch?
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
