From a distance

I want to be able to start, play, and turn off the music even if I'm not physically there.

Hi there, @Jonylen,

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

With Spotify Connect, you can use your current device as a remote to control the playback on other devices such as your PC or TV, smart speakers, gaming consoles, etc. - check out the linked article for an in-depth look at the feature!

In case you meant something else, feel free to elaborate further so we can get a better understanding of your inquiry.

Cheers 🤘

Thanks. So I cant use only my phone from home to control the music at the gym? It would be ideal if I could have a timer for when the music turns on and off and also ability to change songs, etc.

Hi @Jonylen,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, you can use your phone to start the playback on another device and control what plays there regardless of distance or network. As for a timer, there is a feature called the Sleep Timer although it has to be set on the device itself and isn't available on all devices. See the explanation in this thread to see how it works.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.

How do I start a playlist from home? Its not the same network.

Hey @Jonylen,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

It's not necessary to be on the same network to control the playback on another device. If you want to start your playback on a different device, we'd recommend opening the app on both devices and tapping/clicking the device picker (located in the Now Playing View) on the device you want to use as “control”. This will display the list of available devices and you just need to select the device where you want your playback to start playing as seen below:

This allows you to play the music on the picked device, but controlling the playback from the first one.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.
