Help with spotify app

Hi, I' new to smartphones. bought one to run spotify in my car. so I download the app on the phone, start it up and all i get is a page with 3 green bars top left and 'Spotify'. the rest is totally blank. what am i doing wrong/not doing at all?

I've tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it but no luck. currently on wi-fi, does this make any difference?
