How to deactivate autoplay at the new home screen

Solved!

How to deactivate autoplay at the new home screen

I got the new design of the spotify Android App and overall its okay, but it's annoying that the music or similar starts playing automatically on the home screen if you swipe through it. Is it possible to deactivate that?

wait is there genuinely no way to disable it right now? i cant even begin to describle how hostile this is, because currently every time i open the app, i am jumpscared by a strongly flashing video clip, accompanied with full volume audio clip from middle of a metal song. i have even had the app bug and start playing it while i was listening music. this is not only incredibly disrespectful and intrusive for users, but also can be genuinely dangerous for some people. would suck being an epiletic user right now.

what they are even trying to accomplish with this update? are they trying to compete with tiktok or what? because if that is it, its like a bakery baking terribly made socks into all their cakes to compete with a clothing store across the street.

i recently renewed my subscription, but i gotta cancel it and move to some other way of listening music if this doesnt change 😕 i cannot listen music like this.

Another bit of anger towards this - terrible, terrible decision.

I agree this is completely insane that there is no way to turn this off. What if you have your headphones in and volume all the way up accidentally and it plays some extremely loud music and destroys your ears? Other than that, it's just plain annoying and an awful UX choice.

I've been using Spotify from the very beginning in 2011 and have always said it has the best UX and that's why I've never switched, despite going through 3 Apple Music and 2 Tidal trials. But right now, I can't say that is the case anymore.

Spotify, please fix this and allow the ability to disable the autoplaying homepage cards.

How on god’s green earth did this get approved?? This is truly the most intrusive and horrible way to add promoted content. I pay for a subscription to listen to what I want. I cannot understate how annoying and disruptive it is to have random music and flashing videos play out loud upon opening the app. I have canvases disabled for a reason. This is such a horrific UI change that completely negates what I loved about Spotify. I already have Apple Music for free and refuse to renew my family subscription until we are AT THE VERY LEAST able to mute them long term. Even better, listen to your users and get rid of it altogether. Let me listen to my podcasts in peace.

You know what doesn't do this auto video bull**bleep** ......  Amazon Music.  Listeners there is an option....... I am tied into Spotify on my Annual subscription.  Make the option to shut this 'feature' off or you will have customers making choices.

Adding that this is horrendous, and essentially makes the home page useless. The only reason this kind of interface works on TikTok etc is that short-form video is a category of media that exists, for better or for worse. Short-form audio does not.

Nope, dislike a lot

Still don't see a way to turn it off and I'm really **bleep** about it. I want my small cards back and 100% will switch if I can't manually opt out of this new auto-play with videos home screen. I'm totally comfortable with a lot of changes, especially to make driving while wanting to listen safer, but this is definitely not what the standard should be.

Unfortunately when you reopen the app it hasn't remembered the mute option 😞

So so so annoying please revert back! I get startled when I am opening the app to use for meditation or sleep or calming music. Or I get mad when I’m opening to look for something that was a nice shortcut on the previous UI home. Revert revert!

9 times out of 10 when I open Spotify I'm holding onto a delicate thread of a vibe, and I'm looking for just the right music. To have the app just start blasting a random snippet from the middle of a song? Absolutely diabolical. It doesn't even fade in. Whoever designed this hates us.

I'm sure it boosts some metric or other, and there's some bloodless business case for adding anxiety-inducing features to your app. But Spotify is supposed to be a safe place.

Long time premium subscriber, just cancelled my subscription over this. It's the worst update you ever pushed and there have been plenty. I can't believe anyone actually signed off on this

I tried to speak to Spotify about this and they are "passing my feedback on to the correct teams" and "hope I enjoy the new updates".

So in short, there isn't anything we can do about it right now 🙄🙄🙄

This resonates with me because I originally started a subscription so I could have an ad-free, calming lullaby experience for my kid. But now I need to remember to have a quick trigger finger for the mute button, or to have the volume off when opening the app, so we don't start off bedtime with some loud, startling sample of random music that Spotify decided I must listen to.

Adding my opinion to the discourse: this is absolute ass.

I recently started paying for Spotify and enjoy the service. The auto-play home screen is now so intrusive that I get angry when I open the app.  I'd strongly prefer a home UI revert/overhaul, but there are possible lesser fixes to reduce the disruption. Allow disabling auto-play (like other apps that are considerate of data) or allow me to open directly to my library.  The UI also removed the useful categories that are present in the desktop version (no complaints with that one, still a good home interface).  The annoyance of the new home screen has made me evaluate pros/cons of paying for this as others have mentioned.

This is the worst update i have ever seen in any app. I can't believe that it was approved. Definitely cancelling my subscription of it doesn't revert in the coming week or two.

This is a horrible idea. Disable the auto play.

It's incredibly irritating to open the app with headphones on, and get BLASTED with music that I didn't want to hear.

At the bare minimum, you need to make the mute button persist across sessions. I have observed that after a while, the mute turns off and you get autoplay audio the next time you open the app.

Yes please give the user an option to turn this autoplay off or at least make mute the standard. Besides the fact that the peacefulness of spotify is gone with this feature, in a public space without headphones on I now have to think about turning my volume down before I can even scroll down or everyone has to listen along.
