How to deactivate autoplay at the new home screen

Solved!

How to deactivate autoplay at the new home screen

I got the new design of the spotify Android App and overall its okay, but it's annoying that the music or similar starts playing automatically on the home screen if you swipe through it. Is it possible to deactivate that?

I agree with everyone else. The app is pointless for me to use in this state. It is incredibly annoying to be confronted with unwanted music upon opening the app and having to navigate through additional menus to get to the content that I am interested in. Since there is no way of disabling this layout and no way of getting the app to start on Library view, I will be cancelling my subscription. No use in paying for a service that is more annoying than useful.

Agree with everyone, this design was not made for us to enjoy music. One star review on App Store. Will unsubscribe if this autoplay + auto-unmute will not go away.

Awful,

Most ugly redesign ever

Me and many more just hate it please give us option to have the old back when our playlist was shown at top. This was the biggest mistake

And I will remove my premium account if this until ugly home layout is gone!! 😶🤩🙄

A terrible design decision which has me thinking it's time to cancel my subscription. Whoever thought this was an improvement to the home screen needs to be fired immediately.

Me too. I thought I am too dumb to find the deactivate button, but THIS is insane.

I’m planning to cancel my decade long subscription if this feature cannot be disable or removed entirely.  Absolutely ruins my user experience to auto-play anything.

I've dug through the settings at least 5 times and haven't been able to find a way to disable it. The new home screen auto-play cards are terrible. Not only does it waste my data with unexpected audio streaming usage, but it's intrusive, disruptive, and startling to have music that you didn't expect or ask for suddenly start playing. Please either get rid of it entirely or add the option to disable it.

When Spotify will this irritating feature be removed (or at least a mute setting be added)? I initially thought it was a bug on my phone, so I logged out and logged back in but it was still there, this was after checking my settings about 3 times. I then uninstalled the app and reinstalled, but it was still there. I finally stumbled upon this community page, and seeing so many complaints of the same thing, I knew I wasn't alone.

Advise to you Spotify, respond to your paying user complaints or:

1) run the risk of losing a few million paying users

2) run the risk of litigation due to:

  (i) health issues (for example epilepsy,  hearing issues) resulting from this feature

(ii) essentially advertising on a non-advert platform

Spotify works for the Spotify community, don't emulate other apps.

I do hope Spotify is hearing its users as time is ticking....

This is Spotify lite

So much better

Please go back to previous design

Shame that Spotify not almost every time listen on users feedback smaller developer fix things users not happy . Spotify is to big company and don't care Abbott users happy or not

I have been a Spotify Premium member for about ten years.  After the recent (android) app update, I'm considering cancelling - it's borderline unusable.  I have never listened to a podcast in my life - why would you autoplay one at full volume as soon as I open the app?  If I mute them, why would you unmute them next time I open the app?  Why are you making me watch music videos instead of letting me scroll to my own playlists?

Fire whatever product manager you just hired from TikTok and go back to what you used to do really, really well.

I've also tried deactivating this autoplay, but to no avail. It scares me EVERY time & I jump. PLEASE, Spotify, at the very least, mute these automatically or give us a toggle. I don't want a heart attack every time I open Spotify.

This is the first time in almost a decade of using Spotify where I've felt compelled to contribute to one of these discussions.

This feature is AWFUL. I have no desire to hear one of my own random songs played without permission, let alone the god awful promotional **bleep** Spotify is paid to advertise. The 'promoted' album pop ups were annoying enough, but this is in a league of its own garbage design.

At the very least, the feature needs to be optional. It's an annoyance every single time I open the app.

Not is the New home screen purely annoying but it also seems to drain my battery much more. I don‘t have the latest phone so it doesn‘t even work fluently. Make this stupid feature optional please. Tidal is cheaper and it‘s getting better just from keep beeing simple

This update also negatively effects last.fm usage as well. Music that autoplays from the new mobile home screen will count as a scrobble, even if the song only plays for less than a few seconds, which leads to inaccurate stats being saved. I am hoping an option to disable autoplay is added soon, otherwise I'll strongly consider unsubscribing and switching to a competitor such as Apple Music.

I agree. Starting to play random songs upon opening the app is extremely annoying. Please add a setting to disable this, otherwise I'm cancelling my subscription and looking for an alternative.

Is there a way to turn off the annoying previews in the phone app that starts playing if you touch the screen in the wrong way?

My Question or Issue

Quick fix is to drop the app and use the web-interface in your browser 🙂

Hate this update! Let me opt out of this garbage home screen!

Why can't anyone from Spotify answer very bad

I agree that there should be an option to disable this. I always get annoyed  having unrequested music shoved at my ears upon loading the app. Major letdown by Spotify.
