Installation fails on HTC Wildfire S - Android 2.3.5

Description

When I try to install the latest version of Spotify from the Playstore I get the message

What are the steps you took to get to the error/issue?

1. Installed the app from the Google play store

2. When I opened the app I was advised that it needed to be updated

3. After hitting the download button advised that "Your device isn't compatible with this version"

4. Dowloaded SpotifyAndroid.apk

5. Uninstalled Spotify

6. Attempted to install from the "apk" file using "package installer"

7. When I opened the app I got a blank screen and the message "There seems to be a problem with your app installation. For best results, please reinstall Spotify".

Nope you haven't missed a thing, it was a big shock for us on the community team too. Those devices pretty much have no way to access Spotify anymore I'm afraid.

Unfortunately, the HTC Wildfire S is an armv6 processor device which Spotify have announced are no longer being supported:

According to Spotify's website, it should work: https://support.spotify.com/us/learn-more/faq/?_ga=1.46346279.1435398140.1369333577#!/article/What-d...

Which of us is correct?

I see. So with no previous advice and no notice a 3 year old device is rendered obsolete as far as Spotify is concerned.

So much for customer service - or have I missed something!

Ah well - just have to wait for my Gramofons, but thanks for putting me right on the Wildfire. I could have wasted a lot of time!

Yeah, you'd think a company with 40 million users might try to be a little more forthcoming about forcing an update like that, huh? I can only hope they decide to give us warning when they're pulling arm7 support.

Oh you can't be serious. I'm a paying customer, at least I deserved a message that my phone won't be covered with the new update... I wonder how many customers Spotify will lose this weekend. I cancelled my abonnement already. I'm very disappointed with this company right now and actually very pissed. Cancelling support for working and still selling smartphones... In other companies there would be heads rolling right now! There's nothing left to say right now.

You're not the only one! It is unbelievable, but they did indeed do just that. It does seem capricious to do such a thing without any warning to customers (or guidance to support to aid customers). I'm struggling to see how any business boasting 40 million subscribers could put so little thought into so many people!
